Among the 850,000 workers in occupations traditionally deemed lower income, such as clerical support and service staff and tradesmen, about 100,000 earn below $1,300, figures from the Ministry of Manpower show.

==

From 850,000 low wage workers, the govt profit their CPF deductions and also GST.

Let's say 1mil or 1.5mil work pass and S-pass foreigners this govt profit from their worker levies.

This system is designed to fully maximize the profits for greedy PAP.

KPK say that in most other countries with minimum wage, foreign workers are included in it.

how convenient to just make such a sweeping statement... i believe those countries are mostly ang moh countries which had a small low wage foreign labour...

Just look closer to home... Hong Kong had separate minimal wage for foreign domestic workers... if i am not wrong... Taiwan also had separate minimal wage for their FDW... Japan also has a minimal wage that doesn't cover foreigners...

Can KPK be clearer which countries minimal wage include foreigners... how are these countries labour market compared to our labour market...?

What is Minimum Wage for a Domestic Helper. The government has set a Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW) of HK $4,630 per month which the employer has to pay to the helper. The Standard Employment Contract also includes food allowance of HK $1,121 per month which has to be paid by the employer separately.Sep 27, 2019

The minimum compensation to a personal helper is 200 000 yen/month as set by the law. Sponsor covers transportation to and from work for their personal helper if they live separately. National holidays are considered to be a vocation. It is quite common to pay a personal helper 2-4 weeks of a holiday bonus.

Taiwan's monthly minimum wage is to increase to NT$23,800 (U.S. $757.74) for 2020, up 3.03% from NT$23,100 (U.S. $735.46) for 2019, the Taiwan Ministry of Labor said Aug.Aug 14, 2019

The 32,000 did not include the number of unemployed or retrenched right?

Dr Koh had cited the figure to explain that a minimum wage was not necessary. He said the Government's policies, particularly the progressive wage model (PWM) and Workfare Income Supplement, already ensure the majority of low-wage workers take home more than $1,300 a month.

Among the 850,000 workers in occupations traditionally deemed lower income, such as clerical support and service staff and tradesmen, about 100,000 earn below $1,300, figures from the Ministry of Manpower show.

After taking into account Workfare wage top-ups and employers' Central Provident Fund contribution, about 56,000 earn less than $1,300. Of these, about 32,000 are full-time employees, or 1.7 per cent of the workforce, a "very small number", said Dr Koh.

So if salary increase for this 32,000 will bring about the end of Singapore's competitiveness and end life as we know it?

i wonder if everyone agrees with his rationale.

1.7% people is inconsequential as long as it keeps the status quo..........

Need to restrict the EP also...
Also means starting a business will be tough... too high cost
My friend hire programmer in Batam $200-$300 per month

So it not so straight forward lah..

So SG should decrease programmer salary in SG to $200-$300 per month to compete with Batam?
