M1 broadband speed

I wonder is my broadband speed normal?
M1 said Typical speed for 500mbp connection is 459.5 – 461.9Mbps.
I use M1 speed test to check my connection, the result is quite disappointing.
I only get 17.8mbps download and 22.7 mbps upload.(Use WiFi)
Can anyone explain to me why there is such a big different?

Ur wifi speedtest speed seem to be for 2.4Ghz Wifi.
R u connected to 5Ghz wifi?

Yes. It is on 2.4Ghz wifi.
If connect to 5Ghz, the speed will be more than 100Mbps for both upload and download.

Try a test using wired ethernet to eliminate any possible wifi problems (eg weak signal, congestion etc)...
Also, try several different tests to compare results.

I have the 1gbps service from M1, and am able to achieve close to 1gbps both through the speedtest.net app
as well as by manually downloading large files, for instance from mirror.0x.sg.

These results are from a wired connection however, using wifi (802.11ac 5ghz) i get about half that.

If you are getting considerably higher speeds on 5ghz, then the 2.4ghz wifi band is most certainly a bottleneck. It's likely that there's lots of other 2.4ghz devices in your vicinity causing congestion.

The 5ghz band is less commonly used, and is less able to penetrate walls so it generally suffers less from such congestion.

I would suggest a test using wired ethernet, just to make sure the connection itself is ok. Once you've established that, you could try different wifi channels or access point placement to try improving the connection between your router and device.

Just for information, for all ISP in Singapore, the sign up speed is referring to cable connection speed. For wifi connection, the speed is limited to the wifi router and the wifi client and the number of users connected to the wifi and how far away from the router. If you just want to use wifi and not wired connection just get a few good wifi mesh routers and put them in the right location at a high position. This is provided that the wifi client in all your devices can support the speed.

Actually the speed of 100+ via wifi 5Ghz is normal. Netflix 4k video streaming only need 25 Mbps.

For wifi connection, the speed is limited to the wifi router and the wifi client and the number of users connected to the wifi and how far away from the router. If you just want to use wifi and not wired connection just get a few good wifi mesh routers and put them in the right location at a high position. This is provided that the wifi client in all your devices can support the speed.

Most people in Singapore are living in apartments in close proximity to other users... The more devices people connect to wifi, the greater the level of congestion - mesh devices with wifi backhaul are using wifi spectrum both for device connections and the backhaul itself.

People really need to be considerate of their neighbours, use wired connections whenever possible, keep power levels low to minimise signal leakage outside of your own apartment, use 5ghz where possible as it has less wall penetration etc...

Of course if you happen to live on a ranch in the USA where your closest neighbours are 10 miles away, wifi will be fast and you don't have to worry about congestion.

A. Would suggest you do a Wire test if possible to confirm that M1 ONT and your router wire connection no issue.
