Approximately 91% of stocks in the S&P 500 Index were trading above their 200-day moving average and 82% were trading above their 20-day moving average. The VIX Index fell 0.41pt (-1.9%) to 20.84.

Moderna says new data shows Covid vaccine is more than 94% effective, plans to ask FDA for emergency clearance later Monday
NOV 30 2020

Moderna said the vaccine’s effectiveness was consistent across age, race and gender. The 196 confirmed cases included 33 adults over the age of 65 and 42 people from Black, Latino and other diverse communities. The vaccine was also well tolerated with the most common side effects being fatigue, muscle pain, headache and pain at the injection site, the company said.

In August, Moderna said it was charging between $32 and $37 per dose for its vaccine for some customers, under cheaper “pandemic pricing.” The company said it was in discussion for larger volume agreements that will have a lower price.

As you can see, all of its holdings have a relatively low beta, which helps with avoiding intense price swings, and hence deliver more predictable returns.

Gold Largest Monthly Decline in 4 Years, DJIA Strongest Rally Since 1987

In November, spot gold dropped 5.4%, the biggest monthly decline since May 2016. At the same time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index jumped 11.8%, the largest monthly advance since January 1987. The S&P 500 Index rallied 10.8%, matching the previous largest monthly increase in October 2011. It appears that the relatively positive correlation between gold and US equities, seemingly since the launch of expansive fiscal and monetary policies in major countries, begins to fade.

UK bans installation of Huawei 5G equipment from September
NOV 30 2020

The U.K. said in July that carriers would have to stop buying Huawei 5G equipment by year-end and strip out its kit from their infrastructure by 2027.

U.K. is also set to spend £250 million ($333 million) to help diversify its 5G supply chain. The government is creating a National Telecoms Lab research facility and funding a trial with Japan’s NEC to develop innovative open radio technology for 5G.
