Singtel TV device pairing with bridge mode router?

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone else has encountered this before.

I have my ONR set up as bridged mode, and then I connect a ERL to Lan port 1.

My SingTel TV device is connected to Lan port 4.

When trying to do device pairing for the SingTel TV, I noticed that the app kind of requires the device to be on the same subnet. In such a set up is it possible to get device pairing working?

Not possible. Your ERL is on the bridged port and no VLAN. SingTel TV box is on the private network connected to the non bridged port.

Even for ONT users, you have to use SingTel wireless router to get device paring to work.

The ERL is not a router for the average joe.

If you cannot/do not know how to configure the ERL, you are strongly advise to use the ONR(instead of ONT) and multiple Singtel AC router/AP around the house instead.

its not possible to have device pairing and third party router at the same time as it is very troublesome (if not impossible). for it to work the ERL has to obtain the ip address from singtel vlan 20 and then direct traffic and multicast via static route (very mafan), then also need to set the dhcp options eg option 60 to work...

Hi All, need advice on Singtel TV. As i don't have network cable running to TV's location, I'm currently using Netgear Orbi set to AP to transmit Singtel TV signals out of Asus router (port 4).

Please advise if the Orbi can be replaced with any mesh that can be set to access point mode?

Other than the Orbi, it seems to me SingTel only supports SingTel TV wireless connection using SingTel sanctioned Mesh solutions in this page.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/wifimesh

Actually only SingTel Mesh Extender and Netgear Orbi are listed as "SingTel TV Ready". But I believe Askey/Airties also work.

But none of the SingTel mesh solutions are good, with the exception of Netgear Orbi. So you may want to stick with the Orbi.

Thanks xiaofan!

Just got back from Challenger Bugis and a sales person there recommended Asus ZanWifi. According to him, as long as the mesh can set to AP mode, it should work.

I do not think it is correct. Please confirm with Singtel and Asus before buying.

Just buy Mi Box S and it will make your LG TV much smarter. It got SingTel Cast, SingTel TV Go, TVB Anywhere+ and many more apps including VPN apps if you need US Netflix.

Same advice for Samsung TV owners. Both LG and Samsung smart TV are not that smart compared to Android TV OS.

Alamak.. i was hoping to keep my tv console area minimal, since all i need are Singtel Cast and Netflix apps.

My friend's older Samsung FHD also got pre-loaded Cast app, but LG don't have - seems like some exclusive tie-up between Samsung and SingTel or something. :s22:

Bo bian liao have to get a tv box.

Thanks Xiaofan! :s12:

Currently using a pair of Airties 4920 mesh with 2 MIO TV boxes via CAT5 to ONR. Will be shifting to a new place later this year and will be subscribing to a new 2 MIO boxes + 2 Airties 4930 via CAT5 to ONR for the new place.

I will be able to add my existing 4920 into the new 4930 mesh network myself subsequently, through CAT5 to the new ONR, fully using the 4 ports on the new ONR, correct? My new place will likely need 3 devices to cover all rooms.

You can just get the Chromecast with Google TV. Slicker and doesn’t take up space like an Android TV Box.

Should be okay.

For example:
ONR in DB box -- LAN -- Airties 4930 in living room -- SingTel TV box in living room

ONR -- LAN -- 4930 -- Singtel TV box in bedroom

ONR -- LAN -- 4920
ONR -- LAN -- 4920

Yes that is a good option as well. It is kind of Mi Box S killer.

On the other hand, there are reports that recently SingTel Cast stops working on the Google Chromecast 2020 with Google TV directly, you have to cast from mobile.

Mi Box S is sure to work with SingTel Cast directly as I am using it.

What do I need to change the SSID of the old 4920 so that it can join the 4930s as a single MESH?

Not an user of the Airties but usually you need to factory reset and then set up again.

BTW, you may want to know I do not recommend SingTel Mesh solution like Airties or Askey. But if you need to support SingTel TV box then you have not many choices, other than the better but more expensive Netgear Orbi.

Edit to add:
And since you already have the 4920, so it makes sense you continue to get the 4920 or 4930. They are not so bad with Ethernet backhaul.

Singtel Airties are factory paired. Thus resetting to factory defaults they will still be meshed with the original pairs.

“ This resets the device to original factory defaults, meaning that devices that came in a home pack, will still be meshed with each other after a reset, while any additional access points must be re-added to the mesh after a reset.”

Same mesh network should be just same SSID and password?

Yes. In this case please ask in the SingTel Mesh thread, or ask SingTel. I can not help you here.
