New mac mini seem like good option at $900+ with high performance, low power consumption and low fan noise when loaded. However 16 Gb ram model cost additional $300 more, 512 GB storage model cost additional $300. The ram and storage is soldered on motherboard with no expansion slot.

I like my Mac Mini M1 base model 8GB/256GB at S$979.

On the other hand, it may be good to have another Windows 10 Mini PC as well to run x86 Windows and Linux.

The cheaper ones in Taobao are around RMB2500 or above with decent spec. Not so sure about the quality though.

The components may differ from system to system, so I don’t think it’s going to be Hynix and Samsung combination like yours all the time. Big manufacturers usually multi source their parts to avoid bottlenecks.

Lenovo on-site warranty is outsourced if I am not mistaken, but it’s still good based on my experience.

Need advice.

I tried customizing Lenovo ThinkCenter M75q Gen 2 Tiny using the specs of RTS AS deskmini(https://www.aftershockpc.com/welcome/rts_details/3824) and the price is quite similar after applying discount codes. There are some differences though:

Ryzen 3 Pro 4350G(AS) VS Ryzen 3 Pro 4350GE(Leno)
1TB Lexar SSD(AS) VS 512 SSD(Leno)
3yrs(1 yr onsite & 2 yrs carry in) (AS) VS 3 Yrs Onsite(Leno)
Unactivated Windows (AS) VS Licensed Windows(Leno)

I do not know the brand of RAM and SSD that Lenovo is using but AS is using Klevv ram.

Based on forum, AS aftersales reviews are mixed. I have no idea about Lenovo aftersales service as I have never used their product before.

Which one should I go for?

Thanks.

Between the Ryzen 3 4350G and 4350GE, you need to decide you prefer a more powerful system or lower power system. The former has a 65W TDP while the GE version should have a 35W TDP. While it is proven that AMD's 4000 series (Renoir) is very scalable and works very well at any given TDP, there is no doubt that the higher the TDP, the faster it will run because the power budget is shared between the CPU and GPU. The higher power affords the APU to sustain at a higher clockspeed if its within the thermal threshold.

SSD wise, you need to decide if you prefer higher storage or faster storage. The Lexar SSD if I am not wrong is not a fast SSD, but for 90% of the people, it is already very fast. A faster SSD will not make your apps or games load any faster.

RAM wise, Klevv is a brand from Hynix themself. I've used the Klevv Bolt before and I think the RAMs are good and stable. I would even go to say that I would recommend Klevv over Corsair RAMs if you are using an AMD system based on my experience.

DIY a PC is not considered tech savvy. It is just assembling parts like an Ikea furniture. DIY a mobile phone then I said the person is truly tech savvy. These days it is much easier to put together a basic PC. Since you are in this mini PC thread I like to highlight to you that even mini pc we have to put the Storage and the Memory Stick into the machine. Buying a mini pc with everything installed will cost quite a premium. If it is cheap then it is usually entry level configuration.

Since you know how to find your way into this thread. I believe you can do better. If you really want something with no installation on your part, then a laptop may be more applicable for you.

In my opinion, you need to be somewhat tech savvy to build a PC on your own. The fixing part is of course just following instructions. But you need to know what to buy which will require that you to have knowledge beforehand or have to seek information in order for one to gather the parts to build a PC.

Mini PCs like NUC are easier to install since most of the parts are preinstalled, so its just a matter of putting in your RAM and SSD. The rest will be to install the OS and drivers if required for the system to work optimally.

I just bought Asus PN50..
It is my first AMD system. i own several intel nuc before..
Is there any other owners of this model?

How is your experience with the heat and noise? my unit easily spin up the fan and bit warm..

on the other hand, my 5 years old intel nuc comes with low powered graphics card (not Radeon or nvidia).. the fan noise and heat is not noticeable.

I was looking around for mini and saw this review, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Swupk8Jr3A&t=789s

Maybe you can check out your Q Fan setting in the Bios.

Hi All,

I need some advice, my over 10 years DIY PC has died and I am now looking at the Mini PC due to future space constraint, specifically the below specs. Appreciate your advice as well as experience with it.

ThinkCentre M75q Tiny Gen 2
- AMD® Ryzen™ 3 PRO 4350GE Processor (3.50 GHz, up to 4.00 GHz with Max Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 4 MB Cache)
- 8 GB DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 4 GB)
- 256 GB PCIe SSD
- Windows 10 Pro 64

Intended Use: Watching Youtube, movies and concurrently surfing internet or working on MS Office. My old PC when playing movie or youtube will lag or hang when I try to open Office or browser to multi-task. But unlikely I will ever play games with it though. :(

I would like to know if the planned spec is an overkill at the same time I would like bang for buck. Thanks in advance.

asks for bang for buck but never list price... :s22:
anyway, 4350ge should be sufficient for ur use case. as long as u dont have very intensive workloads it should work just fine, can even sneak in a bit of gaming too.

That bring the price down to $613.20. Thanks!

that is certainly a very good price. build urself with full 65w 4350g also about the same price, though if stretch to 2x8gb ram and 500gb nvme maybe diy more value. then again, for prebuilt fully functional pc with warranty its a steal.

hwzlite post on SFF somehow reminded me to check my old desktop for HDD and I found I have the following:

1 x WD 500 GB 3.5" 7200 RPM
1 x WD 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM
1 x Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB SSD

Should I re-purpose them? If so any reccomendation on a SFF option? (I am assuming no Mini ATX options would fit the above). Thanks in advance.
