MyRepublic Internet and Singtel IPTV over Common LAN Cable (Single)
I recently migrated over from Starhub Fibre TV over to Singtel IPTV.
As with most homes that have hardwired LAN points, each room typically only has one LAN point (be it the living room or bedroom). As such, users typically have to choose between using that one LAN point for either (i) Singtel IPTV, or (ii) hardwire broadband Internet connection from Non-Singtel ISP providers.
My personal preference is to use hardwired connection whenever possible (vis-a-vis over wifi which may be slower and less stable).
Since adding an additional LAN point in each room would be messy and expensive, I used two smart switches to combine Internet data (from MyRepublic) and Singtel IPTV, and to direct the combined data over a single common LAN cable to the destination room. At the destination room, the smart switch will separate the combined data into their respective ports.
I finally got the setup to work after much tinkering with switch settings.
In theory, this method should allow for Singtel IPTV to be combined with broadband plans from any other ISP (be it ViewQuest, WhizzComm, Starhub, M1 etc).
Have attached the network diagram and switch settings for those who might face similar issues (single LAN point in room etc) in future. Hopefully it will be useful.
