I'm currently using a network switch for lan connection to tv, mio tv, karaoke song selector. Problem lies on Mio tv, screen freezes when I switch between channel. Can I know how to connect lan cables to mio tv when I need direct lan connection at my entertainment area. My router is far away behind my main door. Help help. Thanks

Are you using Singtel for internet as well as for Mio TV? Or is your internet provider another third party provider?

How is your current cabling setup? Where is your network switch? Is it a dumb switch or smart switch?

You need to post your connection. The issue may well be that your switch does not support IGMP snooping. You can buy cheap TP-Link TL-SG105 which may well work. Or better TL-SG105E which is VLAN capable smart switch. Or you can replace your switch to a SingTel issued router ( you can disable wifi).

Still to be sure, you need to mention the following.
ONT or ONR?

SingTel provided router or your own router?

Dummy switch or smart switch? Does your switch support IGMP Snooping?

Example:
1) ONR -- SingTel router -- Singtel TV box + others : okay

2) ONR -- your own router -- Singtel TV box plus others : not okay

3) ONT -- SingTel router -- Singtel TV box + others : okay

4) ONT -- SingTel router -- switch with IGMP snooping support -- Singtel TV box + others : should be okay

5) ONT -- your router with VLAN -- Singtel TV box + others : okay

6) ONT -- your own router -- switch with IGMP snooping support -- Singtel TV box + others : ??? To be confirmed.

7) ONR -- your own router in AP mode -- smart switch with VLAN function -- smart switch with VLAN function -- Singtel TV box plus others : ??? This may work, to be confirmed.

8) recommended connection for ONR with own router
ONR -- SingTel TV box
OBR -- you router in AP mode

Technical discussion.

You will need to provide us with more details on your current configuration for us to provide a meaningful answer.

As xiaofan as pointed out, there are many possible configurations (some of which work, whilst others don't). Need to know what exactly you have to be able to troubleshoot

What type of router support Singtel V-lan?
Beside the one currently Singtel is promoting.

Almost all the current routers from Asus, Netgear, TP-Link and D-Link all support Singtel V-LAN, if you are Singtel ONT users.

ONT -- 3rd party router with Singtel VLAN -- Singtel TV box.

Notable exceptions which do not support Singtel VLAN:
Google Nest Wifi
Linksys Velop Mesh (Linksys E series supports Singtel VLAN)

However, if you use ONR, then Singtel TV box has to be connected to the Singtel ONR or Singtel issued router and not third part router.

1) The following will work.
ONR -- 3rd party router (AP mode), You can use router mode which causes double NAT unless you ask Singtel to bridge the ONR)
ONR -- SingTel TV box
Or ONR -- SingTel issued router -- SingTel TV box.

2) The following will not work.
ONR -- 3rd party router -- SingTel TV box
ONR -- 3rd party router -- SingTel issued router -- SingTel TV

Disney Shutting Down 18 Cable Channels In Southeast Asia And Hong Kong From 1 October 2021

disney-plus-singapore-launch-event.jpg

Disney is closing 18 channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong starting 1 October 2021. This marks the end of an era for the company who has a huge entertainment supply chain in the region.

Geek Culture understands that employees were informed about the closure earlier today in Singapore.

The 18 channels closing down in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong after more than two decades are entertainment channels Fox, Fox Crime, Fox Life and FX; movie channels Fox Action Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Movies and Star Movies China; sports channel Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3, Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2; kids channel Disney Channel and Disney Junior; factual services Nat Geo People and SCM Legend.

The decision to close these 18 channels is so that the company can focus on its direct-to-consumer (D2C) streaming model. Only 4 channels made the cut to D2C: Star Chinese Channel, Star Chinese Movies, National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild.

Whilst the move may not be a shock to many, it leaves some questions for consumers of sports content. Fox’s sports channels include the rights to major sports events including Formula One, Australia Open, U.S. Open, Wimbledon and French Open. It is unclear what Disney plans to do for its sports consumers, though rumours suggest that the company may be working towards a D2C sports environment to address this issue.

Pay-TV platforms, such as SingTel Mio and Starhub, will have a giant hole to fill in their line-up. Likewise, consumers who subscribe to pay-TV platforms for access to these 18 channels may have to revise their subscription.

With many Disney staff impacted by the closure, the company has come up with a new staffing structure and unfortunately, let some employees go including Singapore-based marketing head Daniel Tan, Asia-Pacific head of marketing for studio marketing Shoba Martin and Tom Batchelor. Batchelor previously held the positions of VP of studio operations, theatrical and Disney+ content localisation and live entertainment, and Asia-Pacific VP music Southeast Asia. Disney has yet to disclose how many people will be leaving the company as a result of the closure.

Going forward, Fox Network Group content executive Michael Dick is now put in charge of D2C acquisition for the region as well as channels for Southeast Aisa, including Indonesia. Andy Baek has been tipped as head of media networks for Indonesia/Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, with a dual role in direct-to-consumer programming business and Karan Paul, who is currently head of business transformation has been named head of D2Cbusiness operations.

“As part of The Walt Disney Company’s global effort to pivot towards a D2Cfirst model and further grow our streaming services, the company is consolidating its Media Networks business primarily in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. These efforts will help us align our resources more efficiently and effectively to current and future business needs,” said Disney in a statement announcing the closure to employees earlier this morning.

The company’s D2Cstreaming platform, Disney+, first arrived in Singapore in February this year. Here’s all you need to know about Disney+.

Disney to shut down most of its TV channels in Southeast Asia, eyes growth in streaming services

SINGAPORE: Disney will be shutting down most of its television channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong as part of the company's effort to further grow its streaming services.

In response to CNA's queries, The Walt Disney Company said on Tuesday (Apr 27) it is "consolidating its Media Networks business primarily in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong", as part of the company's "global effort to pivot towards a direct-to-consumer-first model and further grow" its streaming services.

According to Variety, the channels set to be shut down include Fox, Fox Crime, Fox Life and FX; movie channels Fox Action Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Movies and Star Movies China. Sports channels Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3, Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 2 will also be shut down.

Disney Channel and Disney Junior, as well as factual services Nat Geo People and SCM Legend, will also be axed, Variety reported.

As of Oct 1, 2021, Disney will operate a "streamlined television portfolio" that covers the Chinese language channels - Star Chinese Channel and Star Chinese Movies - and Factual Entertainment - National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild.

"These efforts will help us align our resources more efficiently and effectively to current and future business needs," said the company.

Disney+, the company's streaming service, is currently available in two Southeast Asian markets Singapore and Indonesia. The company said it will continue to roll out the service in more markets in the region including Hong Kong this year.

Local telco StarHub said there will be "minimal impact" on its customers, who are able to continue to watch films, series and documentaries through Disney+.

"StarHub is Official Distributor of Disney+ in Singapore, having signed an exclusive agreement with The Walt Disney Company," said StarHub in a statement.

SingTel said it is currently "working with Disney to understand this in better detail and assess the potential impact".

Disney+ was made available in Singapore earlier this year, offering more than 650 films and 15,000 episodes of entertainment content.

So how if subscribe half way...then all these Disney owned channels out from SingTel package, will SingTel compensate because they didn’t fulfil their end of commitments?

I remembered there was an similar case previously whereby some of the channels were removed. Can't remember the outcomes.

My contract was upgraded early this year with Fox and its sports channels. Hopefully, there is an option to terminate the plan early without penalty instead of replacing those channels with something else which are not interesting to me.

Hi, need some advice.
I am currently on M1 fibre and plan to sign up Singtel TV + Go and and use Chromecast with Google TV to watch on my TV. Can any experts advise:
1. Will this setup work? Does it mean I don't need to install any ONR and set-top box?
2. Does Singtel allow no installation of ONR for Singtel TV new subscriber?

TIA
