I have just changed to use the Asus RT-AX82U as the main router (with SingTel VLAN profile since I am using ONT and I have SingTel TV as well) and I will retire the SingTel Mesh Router if the RT-AX82U runs stable.

For now I just connect the Singtel Mesh router to the RT-AX82U. As expected SingTel Mesh Router automatically runs in AP mode and some features are disabled like LAN settings, Firewall, VPN and IPv6.

It is so far so good in terms of stability as the main router during the first two days of usage. This is better than SingTel AC Plus.

Usually we will have about 14-20 devices connected to the home network at the same time (not counting some network device which are switched on very occasionally like my Raspberry Pi boards and Orange Pi boards). Some of them will go through the AP though (Huawei AX3 Pro). And usually only 6 to 10 devices are actively using the internet and the others are mainly idle.

Hi, sorry i have a noob question. There is a "Smart Mesh" function for this Singtel mesh router. Does it mean i can add more of the same router to create a wifi mesh?

You need to add Singtel Mesh Extender AC2600 to the Singtel Mesh Router.

SingTel Mesh Extender AC2600 can work in two modes.
1) mesh node for SingTel Mesh Router AC1900 (free for 1Gbps plan new sign-up, may be free for 1Gbps recontract).
2) act as a mesh solution for ONR users, without the need for SingTel Mesh Router. Just like Airties or Askey.

https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/wifimeshSingtel Mesh Extender AC2600
  • AC dual-band with MIMO
  • Fast WiFi speeds with 4 in-built antennas
  • Ultra expandable with up to 6 units in a mesh network

$15.00

Some settings in my Singtel mesh Router appear to be greyed out. Such as Firewall, VPN etc..

Is there a way to enable them?

If the mesh are in AP mode the firewall and VPN is disable like most other mesh. I guess this only available when device are running as router mode (not sure if this device can run as router mode)

SingTel Mesh Router can only run in router mode when connected to SingTel ONT. It will automatically run in AP mode when connected to SingTel ONR.

Thank you for explaining. My SIngtel Mesh Router is connected to the ONR. So It must be running in AP mode as a result, thus those options are disabled.

I'm having problems with this router which replaces the 7003. No internet. Does the SME sku matter for home use? Or do I have to get the (consumer) version?

I believe you have to get the consumer version with the built-in VLAN support if you use SingTel ONT.

Hi all,
Please advise for my case
Current as-is :
ONR1: wired to singtel TV box
Onr2: wired to router singtel gigabit ac plus. use Ssid name e.g singtel 123
Onr position in living room. MBR has WiFi repeater TPlink RE500 to strengthen signal ssid singtel 123

To-be (alternative 1)
Current setting still use, include mbr using tplink re500.
Additional only : add onr3 wired to askey unit1 and introduce new ssid e.g: askey456 and put askey unit2 in child room with pairing from askey unit1

Question related to be alternative 1:
1.1 will it interfere or reduce speed when 2 ssid (singtel123 and askey456) status both active in 1 house?

To-be (alternative 2)
Remove onr2 by not using singtel router ac plus anymore and only rely on new onr3 with askey unit1 and pairing with askey2 using new ssid : askey456

Question related to be alternative 2:
1. How stability of using askey unit 1 as broadcaster to askey unit2 to the whole existing devices used at home?
2. Can my TPlink Re500 repeat ssid name : askey456 to my master bed room? Any compatibility issue??? (just in case if askey unit 2 cannot reach master bed room).

Thank you in advance

If you have not got the Askey, do not get it as it is not a good solution and it is specific to SingTel.

It is a dual band solution and it seems to me you do not have LAN ports in the rooms so the performance of the mesh node may not be good since you have to use wireless backhaul.

Recommended mesh solution is to get triband mesh if you have to use wireless backhaul.

Floor plan please.

If the room is far away from the main router and there are walls in between, then the performance of the range extender will be pretty bad. It may not even work.

Hmm, actually the notebook is not so far away from the router so your wireless card is probably weak.

In this case, yes a range extender should help in Bedroom 2, especially if you can place it near to the door.

A wireless router in wireless media bridge mode may be even be a better solution for you. Put it in the same place as the laptop, and connect the LAN port to your laptop using Ethernet card.

Cheap ones: Linksys EA7500 V2 from Carousell, probably around S$30 and it should be better than most of the TP-Link range extenders.

Found both via my phone and also via the notebook that when someone in the living room is using the internet, the signal and also the speed in the bedroom phone and notebook drops. In this case should I just go with a range extender or will a mesh help too?

The option you suggested is to use another router (in my bed room) to connect to the main singtel router in media bridge mode and my laptop connect to this new router?

Also, what is your view on mesh for my current setup? will it not improve the coverage and speed?

FYI, i am facing this issue with signal and speed with a new mac pro.

A mesh is sure to be better than a range extender. Since you are using a Macbook Pro, I think it is worth to invest in a decent triband mesh solution. Netgear Orbi RBK852 is one of the best mesh solution out there. Asus Zenwifi XT8 is also pretty good and cheaper.

I assume you do not have LAN port in the rooms here.

The other option is to lay ethernet cable to the rooms, then you can use Ethernet connection to your Macbook Pro.

Just re-contracted and was offered the mesh router as well. I'm currently using my own Asus RT-AX58U router, can the Singtel mesh be paired together with my Asus router to create a mesh network?

No. Just keep using your RT-AX58U as the main router.

If you have Ethernet port you can connect your SingTel Mesh Router to the RT-AX58U, it will automatically run as an AP. I will recommend you use a different SSID.

But you can try using the same SSID and password. Then you can try reduce the TX power in the RT-AX58U to tune the roaming performance.

To save the trouble, just get another RT-AX56U or RT-AX55 to form AImesh to have proper seamless roaming.

Hi Guys,

I'd like to check for any reviews of this router which my friend wants to pass over to me:

singtel_mesh_router_for_sale_1611050700_126dea2e_progressive

I'm currently on their 500MB plan with IPTV bundle, Using their old ALU ONT and FG7003GR Aztech router with Nokia Beacon 1 in Bridge Mode to get better coverage. Recently, the router started giving problems, it's like choking every morning and my download speeds are reduced to less than 40kBps, always have to reset the router very often. Called Singtel tech support and they insist that I sign a new plan and they will be able to upgrade my ONT and Router, hence my friend offered to pass me this router for me to replace the Aztech FG7003GR

Anyone knows if this router works decently well with similar default Singtel configuration to the FG7003? I believe it's just the VLAN tagging entry. And there's an indicator 'Mesh', so is this a real mesh router? Thanks.
