That’ s Amaze’s response. In the end, I don’t bother with ICBC cards anymore. Too much hassle

I only reason I still have ICBC cards is because of the free dragon points when travel opens again. Otherwise I would have just cancelled the ICBC cards. But it is a pain to apply for them again, they take very long processing time.

Had some words with ICBC SG reps called me and let then know amaze has issues with adding ICBC. No promises but I have feeling it's something to do with China issued cards being more stringent but anyway it's up to them to see if it's within their prerogative to resolve or not.

Seperately has a side convo about contactless payment currently only offering Huawei pay, lamenting the lack of it especially after post covid push for digitisation and contactless. They said they're working on Apple pay, and a far way away for Samsung and Google pay but don't expect anything exciting there.

why the hassle. just do it directly using CIMB and you're only left with this month btw
because Amaze card counts as debit card, so any topups done by it can be withdrawn via paynow. so if top ups done counts towards the cashback then it would be too good to be true hahas, nevertheless shall try it out

Do any Mastercards still give cashback or points for mobile wallet topups? I thought only amex cards did and you can't add amex to Amaze. Of course it's still a way to do a cash advance without the fee.

technically, CIMB world mastercard top ups still counts grab topups as valid transactions for cashback until end of this month

Is there anyway to find out the exchange rate that will be used before making an amaze card purchase? I made a AUD txn and the rate was 1.00. But for Instarem bank transfer the rate was better at 0,9944, And at the same time the Revolut rate was 0.9889 and the Transferwise rate was 0.9885,

I expected the Amaze card rate to be closer to mid market rate but it was a couple of percent worse. Is this NIUM's haircut? As I said is there anyway to know what rate NIUM will use before making charges using Amaze? I thought their rates would be better.

How is the numbers you put a few percent worse? It's just 1% worse and all credit cards charge at least 2.5-3.5%. You save at least 1.5% and Amaze card still give you 1% back so that is at least 2.5% better than using credit cards directly. Which other methods do you suggest that can save more?

None of the other rates are actual mid-market, there is a haircut of .5% on the best one. So 2% difference is on the money. My point is that NIUM offers a remittance service using the same app as Amaze and the rates for that were different from Amaze cc txns whereas I was expecting them to be the same. I've done a few Amaze txns and can't work out how they determine the rate - it seems to be all over the place and it'd be nice to know upfront as SGD/AUD has had large moves over the past week and for $1000 transactions it adds up.

Have you used a debit card before? You know it works differently to a remittance service right?

Yeah, ok fine. The first time I used Amaze I made a $50 payment and the rate was 1.0038. At the same time the NIUM remittance rate was 1.0268. The Amaze rate was much better than the Instarem/NIUM remittance rate. I then used Amaze to make a $1000 payment and the rate was 1.000 whilst the NIUM remittance rate was 0.9944 - so now it was worse. The remittance rates are the only ones visible in the Instarem/Amaze app.

Normal debit cards use Visa or Mastercard rates which can be found pretty easily. I'm trying to work out how Amaze decides what rate to use for the forex conversion to SGD that they charge the linked cc. The attractive forex rates are the whole point of this card.

I think you are using the wrong rate for comparisons. Amaze will likely use the rate when the transactions got posted, not when you spend.

can't be transaction post.

It is charged immediately after transaction.
