Last month, I bought a "almost new" Mipad4 from Taobao with China ROM, its actually quite easy to unlock bootstrap and flash with TWRP+LineageOS 17.x, quite happy to get a good deal with Taobao at S$280.

Nowadays many cheap cheap 4G "unlimited" plans. Tablet with good battery life for IPTV and watching Drama on-the-go.

If mi-globe or lineageOS released roms for Mi pad 5, I will buy it too.

My mistake were to buy Alldocube iplay 8T (S$110), weak gfx; and Huawei Matepad T8 (S$160), no-longer-possible unlock bootstrap (if Mediatek chipset, Qualcomm still possible with unlock codes from TB)

nice. I just read up that they had released the source code for mipad 4.

I have mipad 1 released from 2014, and it is still able to flashed to LOS Android ver. 9.

my other mipad 2 without source code, can flashed till LOS Android ver. 5. ver. 5 is only only stable version.

I like 8 inch tablet form factor.

can you play Netflix?

Try cook your own rom based on original stock ROM via mi-globe web cooking pot.
All my "official-use" Xiaomi phones are flashed using de-bloated stock ROM
google "mi-globe rom" and find your model.
These rom (if non-rooted) can use SingPass, ibanking and apps which blocked 3rd party rom.
You could removed all those unwanted Mi apps, factory reset, these apps remained non-installed.

Interested in Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro.
WiFi with small storage will do.

Can I connect to my portable NVMe SSD via usbC to usbC cable?

Most likely need adaptor. But storage size not that small. 6gb+128gb onwards.

Pretty critical review... although like many reviews doesn't cover much about the main complaint - MIUI and how it's not up to standard?

Mi pad 5 started selling on qoo10. Cheapest seen so far $519 for 6gb/128gb and can use coupon. There is a $5 seller coupon + coming weekend there might be $50 coupon (i am not 100% sure on this). There will be GST levied but (519-50-5) x 1.07 = ~$498 assuming seller don't suddenly markup price or disable use of coupon. Thats about $100 cheaper than shopee sellers.

Current price at shopee is 575. There will be coupons coming tomorrow plus no need to pay gst. My math says difference would be more or less 50

Saw one shopee listing going at $566 for the base model but rather new seller account. It does seems like all those shopee sellers are frantically slashing prices by $20-30 from the initial asking price of around $600 at the start of the week. Bang balls for those who placed their orders as soon as the listings were put up.

I already place order. Can order cheaper sure but Qoo10 seller do they offer warranty... Also need to check the fact annot if there is need to pay GST when importing.

Err....qoo10 seller warranty arrangement is that same as those on shopee lor where they help you to ship back to china for servicing if anything happens. To me, seller warranty is as good as no warranty since its up to them to honor their word. Also, those local sellers for the mipad on shopee are basically just drop shippers. Nothing to stop them from closing their accounts and disappear in an instant. Simply put, want to buy anything export set then best not to think too much about warranty.

mercurytech, monmart and tanteo are long time sellers from shopee. And I bought from them before. They seem to honor the "seller warranty" arrangements. No need to pay gst also.

The ones you named plus a few others, i believe are the same 1-2 sellers operating under multiple different accounts. My point is seller warranty you can only take their word for it so i don't see the need for preference or difference between getting the tablet from shopee or qoo10 seller in terms of who to trust.
