Oh my bad, I misunderstood as you seemed fixated on getting a Seiko.

If you're ok to explore other brands, no harm walking around some pawn shops or dealers to see what you find. I think in general local e-commerce is a little behind other international chains and would not have complete inventories online.

I feel it is because there isn't a large watch community in Singapore
from a business standpoint (as a 2nd hand watch dealer), it is logical to stick to the popular mainstream watches for them to make a profit - Rolex Submariner e.g.

I mean watch community as in not just luxury watches
SG non-luxury watch community is it big??

amongst my friends tbh not many into watches (non-luxury)
I know SG luxury market very big, but watch in general I not so sure

I share your view, Singapore market seems very skewed towards luxury watches. The watch community for Rolex, AP, PP is very huge and active, probably one of the largest consumption per capita in the world. Whereas for entry level to mid-level luxury it seems a lot quieter.

i.e. in other countries can see more businesses trading tag heuers, longines, etc.

i dare say a majority of people buying rolexes in sinagpore are not watch enthusiasts and the most probably know nuts about watches. They just buy it as a status symbol

Probably not only in Singapore, I think watch enthusiasts are the minority. Buying Rolex as a status symbol is quite common, including some watch enthusiasts whom may have started with Rolex before getting absorbed into the watch world. At that point, they will buy PP et al and realise actually Rolex is the kid's table in terms of both luxury and price.

I think I finally get Rolex’s value proposition. It’s a very well rounded watch but it’s sorely overpriced especially in the reseller market.

Rolex makes solid watches for its price range. They’re sturdy and reliable. I think the retail price that Rolex is asking is fair, not overpriced at all, only the secondary market price is somewhat high for what it is horologically.

there's huge groups of people into seiko's and microbrands here in sg. do some searches in facebooks. there's groups dedicated to that.

Sure there is a small cult following, I didn’t say there’s no demand. But the fact that even the ADs are throwing prices between 35-40% off, and the boutique itself is giving 20-25% off is very telling about the true market demand.
Whereas other brand have waitlists at full retail price.

Exactly. I share the same sentiment as you.

another tell tale sign is the lack of second hand resellers that sell non-luxury watches.

the UK portal Watch Finder has such an extensive range of products while in SG, it’s like what people here says. Limited to Rolexes and AP etc in the reseller market.

it’s indicative of the small size of the (non-luxury) watch community
