Finally managed to get hold of the LG Gram 16 (2022) and the +view external monitor. Disclaimer: Mine's a review unit from LG.
The 2022 model now uses a matte display instead of the very reflective one from 2021. This is a huge improvement. I used to have the LG Gram 16 and the only thing I didn't not like is the reflective display.
It doesn't seem like the +view 16-inch external display is currently available.
The +view monitor has good colours, bright, matte surface, lightweight and is 1440P.
I have many portable monitors and this is one of the better ones.
I really hope they sell this in Singapore, and at a reasonable price, or try to bundle with the laptop.
Below are the prices on Shopee and Lazada
14-inch
$1899 - 16GB, 512GB SSD, i5, free 512GB ext SSD
$2199 - 16GB, 512GB SSD, i7, free 512GB ext SSD
16-inch
$2399 - 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, i5, free powerbank
$2499 - 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, i5, free powerbank
$2599 - 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, i7, free powerbank + charger
$2700 - 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, i7, free powerbank + charger
17-inch
$2499 - 16GB, 512GB SSD, i5, free powerbank
$2699 - 16GB, 512GB SSD, i7, free powerbank
$2899 - 16GB, 1TB SSD, i7, free powerbank
Singapore does not sell the 15-inch model. Thank goodness because that has a 1080P display, and it's not even 1920 x 1200. Even the 14-inch has 1920 x 1200 resolution.
The pricing seems alright.
If you compare with the Apple M2 Macbook Air with 16GB RAM 512GB storage which is $2299, pricing is competitive. Unless you're really into Mac, you can add $100 to get the 1.2KG 16-inch vs the 1.24KG 13-inch M1 Macbook Air.
Main downside of the LG is battery life. Actually the downside is with Windows laptops. Haven't got chance to test the battery but I was able to get 12 hours Youtube playback with the 2021 model.
16-inch vs 17-inch?
I actually recommend the 16-inch because it's 1.2KG vs 1.35KG.
16-inch display already looks and feels big.
I've also tried 17-inch before and it's huge and definitely very satisfying.
1.35KG is actually not too bad and for a 17-inch laptop is almost unreal.
I remember taking it out of the cardboard box and it felt like the
cardboard box was heavier than the laptop.
