Hi all I just passed my driving test today at CDC driving centre class 3 AUTO on my first attempt and would like to share my experience.
I scoured the depths of this forum thread to find the contact of a very popular driving instructor (will not name) and had 19 lessons with him. During this time, I felt that he did not have a concrete "curriculum" and would often forget what he had already taught me in the previous lesson. I found myself going for about 8 lessons just making right turns at the traffic junction. Yes, perhaps I am a slow learner and need more lessons to hone my skills. I trusted in his opinion on whether I was ready to start learning something new and did not question anything for 19 lessons. (At this point I had already finished my FTT and simulator sessions. We all know how long the waiting time is for the simulator and I was still learning u-turns with this instructor.)
On my 19th lesson, I gathered my courage to ask him very respectfully about the rough outline of what to expect for the rest of the course. Would I be learning parking? What is this thing called a circuit? Which month can I expect to take my test so I can make preparations like taking time off work for the test? All very reasonable questions to me. I would have been perfectly understanding if he had told me that I was a slow learner and that maybe I needed another 30 lessons before I would be ready and to prepare to take the test 9 months later or something. However, he kept quiet initially and completely ignored my questions. After asking again for fear that he perhaps had not heard me, he scolded me and told me to "just focus on the road" and to "stop asking so many questions".
I felt that they were reasonable questions seeing that I had already had 19 lessons thus far and logistically needed a rough outline to arrange time to take off from work. After that driving lesson, I understood that this instructor was quite literally taking me for a ride and that I was just a money making machine to him. I did not appreciate not having an end in sight. Even my provisional driving licence (PDL) was going to expire soon! Hence, I decided to bite the bullet and change driving instructors.
I got to know of my new driving instructor through my boyfriend and was he a breath of fresh air. Granted he's a little cranky sometimes like the stereotypical driving instructor but from the outset he already told me the "curriculum". He informed me of what to expect for each lesson, a rough gauge of how many lessons would be needed in total. He wrote down how much each lesson would cost, the total expected cost of the whole course etc. He's very professional, he records what he taught you in each lesson and prompts you of what to expect in the next one. He is always punctual and does not take toilet breaks. During the lesson, he breaks down every thing and explains everything very clearly so there's no guessing. You'll definitely pass if you remember everything he tells you.
If you're lazy to read the above, main points are below:
Name of AMAZING CDC Ubi private driving instructor: Mr Goh
Contact number: 82826023
Meeting point: Eunos MRT
Lesson duration:1.5h
Car: Toyota Vios
Language: English
Charges for lessons: Better to contact him to get the most up to date charges. (Well worth the money FOR SURE rather than wasting it on instructors who just waste your time)
All the best to everyone in their driving tests!
