Apple would not know when you purchase the device until you activate them with their servers? I think this should make sense.
Date of receipt? Had a similar issue with Sony. Insisted tv warranty starts from day i purchased. Problem is the store didn’t deliver till 2 weeks after i bought so i essentially lost 2 wks warranty & as luck would have it, the panel had issues during this critical period. Had to kick up a fuss to get it resolved.

This is ridiculous. I'd have thought warranty shouldn't start until the product is in the customer's hands.

$148 for refurbished unit or $48 for back glass replacement, I would gladly choose $148 option

I keep my iPhone well protected too. But with apple care, I get protected in rare instances that we need repair. So far I had screen cracked, water damage, battery below 80%.

For these, I get refurbished sets. There was once though, the call kept dropping and apple gave me a brand new set (not refurbished)

I also like the fact that after 2-3 years, I can get a refurbished set for free (as battery will be below 80%).

Trust me when I say that it is extremely easy to sell a refurbished set which is in mint condition. Resale price is higher too. This with battery replacement justifies the AC+ costs for me.

Btw just noticed no one mentioned in this discussion.

AC+ now covers unlimited accident damage, as compared to 2 per year last time.

When the news broke, I kicked myself in the butt as I just purchased AC+ last week, before the announcement.

But this week, apple sent me an email stating that I am getting a “free upgrade” to unlimited accident claims.

While the odds are extreme low, you just have to love apple for extending it to those who already have AC+ before the announcement 👍🏼

I would too, if the phone has scratches etc
some might find it troublesome to need to restore. so might not pay for a replacement.

Yeah! They extend for everything. Actually for those things that is stationary (Apple TV, HomePod etc), it may not be necessary but for those handheld (phone, iPad, MacBook), best to have it. One time I just threw my iPad on my sofa and it got dented after it accidentally land on the floor. With applecare, not so heart pain

Nowadays apple made it so easy to restore, to the extend of giving free iCloud for 21 days.

Read my earlier post. In short, express replacement service will get you a refurbished set. Also now AC+ starts on day to purchase, so you can buy 1 year in (no accidental coverage for first year if so)

Ya. I scratched my iPhone once when I crashed on my bicycle. But no big deal as I knew I will get a refurbished set once I change my battery. Heck, some people spend so much on case and screen protector that they can claim an accidental damage. Might as well use the phone naked!

Lol! Actually screen protector + case already $100. Using china case + protector a bit pointless. It is like you drive maserati then you never buy insurance.

I use iPhone from Gen 1 to 11. Never dropped before until one day someone bang onto me without looking and my phone drop face down on the floor. Really knn! The guy didn’t even apologise and walk off. TMD! Lucky applecare save the day

AC+ is useful. Claimed a few times. For the water damage, I didn’t pay a single cent as I told them iPhone is rated so cannot be water damage so easily. End up they send me a brand new phone without me paying for accidental damage.

If only AC+ here covers theft too. Still waiting for the day this happens.

Alab and QCD can buy within 364 days and with 10% discounts.

Only risk is if apple stop them from doing so. But unlikely. In the states, people can just walk into Apple Store to buy within a year, after checks by Apple

so the 2years coverage will start from phone purchase date or care+ purchased date?

cos you mentioned earlier can get refurbished phone replacement for battery <80% after 2 to 3 years but if it's from phone purchase date shouldn't be able to get replacement since care+ only covers 2years?

Purchase date. That’s why I got my AC+ for my 13PM last week, even though I got it on launch day last year.

2 years to get battery replacement is possible too. My 2x 12PM. 2 months to go, one 81% and one 85%. So likely can replace one of them before AC+ expires. For the 85% one, maybe not in time though but am hoping 🤞🏼
