Hi how long it takes for balance to be updated in Simba app? I just paid using credit card for my parents but it’s not shown in the app. Used to be immediate previously.
I always see immediately update after payment

Hi all,

I am looking around to get a cheap plan for my dad, who is not tech savvy and just need a basic plan for simple Whatsapp and some voice calls. He told me his current plan with Singtel has too much data allowance and he doesn't need that much and wants to pay lesser so I am helping him to look around as he doesn't know anything about MVNO

I saw they have this plan for Seniors (https://simba.sg/seniors-sim-only-plan) and it fits perfectly what he needs I feel

Questions
1) Porting in and retaining his current number would be workable? Also for SIM Card, would it be easier for him to collect straight from the shops/dealers or through mail? I just want to minimize disruption and seamless transition as much as possible

2) When I was doing a mock sign up (to see how it is like)

It mentioned "I acknowledge the mobile voice calls to emergency services will work on the supported devices published at here (https://www.simba.sg/static/media/VoLTE-Devices.255035f9.pdf)"

I do not see my dad's phone model inside the pdf. What does the above mean really? Does this mean he cannot call 995,999 or whatever when on SIMBA plan if his phone model is not supported?

3) Has SIMBA network improved since the days of TPG? I signed up their free plan previously when they launched but had problems in the trains and some places have totally crap signal/no network availability. :spin:

Thanks all

If not volte supported, need to install the TPG voice app to make/receive call.
It has improve a lot but still cannot compare to the main 3.

1) The SingTel number has to be under his NRIC.
2) the list is outdated. Plus, if cannot use VoLTE, can use SIMBA Voice app to make calls.

For me, SIMBA/TPG is alright after it's nationwide. But of course, there bound to have blind spots.

I would suggest you bringing him to the senior sim only plan sign up shops to get a new number under CASH payment and try out first.

$5 is small pain. If it works and point 1 is fulfilled, can move to SIMBA.

If point 1 is not fulfilled, you have to move the number to his name before porting in.

Yes, you can port in & retain. But as noted by others, to get the Senior Line, the current Singtel line needs to be in his name/IC. If it is not, you need to bring him to Singtel first & get that changed.

I would absolutely also bring him to the shop/dealer to do this. There is some activation required for delivery of SIM card through scanning of QR codes & reports of this have been clearly hit & miss. Getting it done on-site is much less hassle.

Just note that unlike other telcos, SIMBA does not provide a temporary number. The SIM card they issue you will not work until the porting is complete (usually the same day or the next day). What will happen is that about 11pm, the current line will be disconnected (you will see 'No Signal' on the phone), and about 30mins to an hour later, when you put the SIMBA SIM card into the phone, you will see the phone connected to SIMBA.

If it is not supported, in all likelihood, he will need to use the SIMBA voice app to make calls. From personal experience (because my own parents are the same), they can get very confused about this. My suggestion is to change to a phone on the supported device list. If your father is not agreeable to change the phone, then I would not suggest getting the SIMBA plan for him.

Based on my experience, SIMBA does take a little bit of fiddling to get it working well, even more so if your phone is not on the supported devices list. This is another reason why I would suggest going down to the shop to get the SIM card, so they can also help with the configurations needed.

3) Has SIMBA network improved since the days of TPG? I signed up their free plan previously when they launched but had problems in the trains and some places have totally crap signal/no network availability. :spin:

It is much much better now. With the exception of some carparks & lifts, I have barely had any issue in terms of network availability compared to my Starhub & Singtel lines, whether in building basements or MRTs.

Maybe try zero1 easier, $6.90 for 6G data, unlimited at cap speed after that.
Can call as normal, don't need to have support for volte.

For Android phone, yes it does. I have tested overseas without issue. Perhaps, you may look around your phone setting to enable it.
