Hi Mosmos, you using this Prolink model yourself? I bought a China model and it was not good. Speed is low even when I'm near to it and when I go further away into the bedrooms, the speed drop more. Hence I'm looking for router which can provide longer range coverage. Does the Tel outlet for this Prolink model work for SIMBA?
Currently I'm on M1 500mbps plan which is about same price as whizcomms. Contract is ending and do not wish to be tied down by another contract and hence that's why looking at using data SIM.
I've tested Simba with my phone as the hotspot and I'm ok with the speed as I don't use much bandwidth. The problem now is finding a strong router so that i can put in the living room while still able to get acceptable speed in the bedroom. The no-brand China router that I've bought is not good enough in regards to this and hence asking for recommendation for a better router.
What you're asking is actually home networking config / WiFi coverage issue -- not really SIMBA telco issue.
(should ask this in a home networking thread -- rather than in this SIMBA telco thread).
Since you say you now using M1 500Mbps home fibre Internet -- then which router are you currently using for this M1 500Mbps fibre?
(1) Your current router that's used on the M1 500Mbps -- is WiFi coverage good enough to reach your bedroom?
(2) If your current router's WiFi range is good/sufficient, then next question is -- the no-brand 4G SIM China router you bought -- got LAN ports?
If yes to both above (1) & (2), then the solution is simple:
(a) Change or convert your current router into AP (access point) mode.
(b) Connect a network cable from one of your current router's LAN ports to one of the LAN port on the 4G SIM China router.
-- read your current router's manual to confirm when changed to AP mode, whether WAN or LAN port should be used for uplink connection.
(c) Make sure your current router's IP is in the same subnet range as the no-brand 4G SIM China router.
Done.
If you don't want to do the above, or don't know how to do the above...
And wish to just spend money to buy another 4G SIM router w/ better WiFI coverage...
Then go buy the
Asus 4G-AX56 router.
This Asus 4G-AX56 -- likely have better WiFI coverage than the no-brand 4G SIM China router.
(but this Asus 4G-AX56 cost $3xx; may cost $2xx during promo or when discount coupon is available).
Yes,
the Asus 4G-AX56 router is a normal WiFi 6 (AX) router -- w/ additional nano SIM slot.
Yes, this Asus 4G-AX56 router supports 4G band 8 + band 40 -- so should be able to support use of SIMBA SIM.
