Hi all, for those who are familiar with Chiang Mai, may I check if speaking English alone is sufficient to get about? My impression is that CM is already quite developed with many tourists visiting there, so should be ok for tourists to travel around, but a friend mentioned that most people there don't speak English much compared to BKK, Phuket or Hua Hin, so she recommended me to go Hua Hin instead (I think the reason she said that was maybe coz she can speak Thai, so most Thai won't speak English to her plus think the last time she went CM was at least 5 years ago), so just want to confirm with people who went CM or frequent there, is it ok to just use simple English to get about, e.g. take Grab, order food etc?

CM is a popular tourist spot. I think simple english so be no problem. Many speak mandarin too. Those area with less tourist will speak only Thai and menu in Thai too. Can use Google translate

If you speak thai language to a thai, they will not speak english to you. That's my experience in the whole of Thailand.

You already said you speak Thai to them why still expect them to speak English?? 🤭🤭. But in general, as long you within city area, most can speak simple English and mandarin
