What was the speed previously on Linksys EA8100? Curious to know how much is the improvement.
Recently changed mobo on PC and now can support up to WIFI 6e thats why considering switch to wifi 6 router. Currently with my PC connect to 5ghz band wifi, speedtest results hover between 550-580mbps. I am assuming by changing to wifi 6 router i will probably get closer to the capped out 1gb speeds.

Apart from the faster speeds, i am also seeing better wifi signal coverage. The toilet in my kitchen is the point furthest away from the router and on the old setup, i used to only get 1 bar on the wifi icon and sometimes there would not even be a signal if i closed the toilet door. Now on the AX72, i am getting stable 3 bars. Overall happy with my decision to change the router, at least until end of the year when i decide whether to jump ship to simba.

New subscriber? No free router but only S$37.89 per month. You can top up for the router based on your needs, or you can buy your own router. For example, you can get Nokia Beacon 2 at around S$45 to S$50, much cheaper than from Starhub. But it is not that good. Linksys Velop MX4200 is decent.

Comparison of the three Starhub bundled routers.

Starhub current 1Gbps plan for new users (24 months contract)
https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...1gbps-broadband_1000mbps-fibre-broadband.html
[New sign ups] Apply promo code FREE3MTH at checkout to enjoy FREE 3 months subscription, effective price at $37.89/month ($43.30/month thereafter).
FREE Service installation worth $90.84
Add on router that best suits your needs:
Smart WiFi (Nokia Beacon 2, AX1800, WiFi 6) at $5.05/mth
Smart WiFi MX2 (Linksys Velop MX2001, AX3000, WiFi 6) at $8.07/mth
Smart WiFi Pro (Linksys Velop MX4200, AX4200 triband, WiFi 6) at $12.11/mth

Used to be S$29.90 per month, now it is S$30.18 per month.

There should be no change of policy. S$30 plus GST (now S$32.40) for downgrade, as per Clause 14.12 of the Starhub Service Specific Term and Conditions.
https://www.starhub.com/content/dam/starhub/legal-notices-and-terms/consumer/broadband.pdf
Modification Fee: $32.40 per downgrade of speed

Usually no need to recontract in general. Check your contract.

I am out of contract since a few year ago. Starhub will usually charge the same price after contract expires. For 500Mbps plan, used to be S$29.90 per month, now it is S$30.18 per month due to GST increase (S$29.90 / 1.07 x 1.08 = S$30.18).
CSO told me there will be no change for those users on 500Mbps even if their contract expires.

However, for users on 1Gbps, price will revert to non promotion after contract expiry.

There is a downgrade charge like you mentioned and a 5 months free offer if I keep the 1Gbps plan for a 24 months contract.

Do you think it'll make sense for me to downgrade to a 500Mbps 2 year contract and not worry about re-contracting after 2 years?

you need to take a look at your current and projected internet use over the next 4-6 years, then the answer will be clear.

for me, i don't need high speed as i don't download much stuff, so I'm satisfied with my 500Mbps. No need to worry every 2 years as to which telco can offer a "better" re-contract deal, and possibly dealing with switching costs. your needs may be different.

Thanks! Just want to check, CSO offered 5 months free for 1Gbps when you called the sales hotline?

Asking as I also have expiring 1Gbps plan and looking to recontact :)

Yes 5 months free but 500Mbps is also another plan you can consider.

Amazing deal! I wonder if they always offer 5 months throughout the year

From what I read, Starhub often gives the best recontract offers if you negotiate with them. But you may need to look at the monthly subscriptions and freebies.

To me sticking to the no-contract 500Mbps plan with Starhub is of good value, at least you do not need to worry about the deals and recontract negotiation every two years. Moreover after Starhub started to offer Nokia Beacon 1 and now Beacon 2 as the free router, you can see that these free routers are not good. It is usually better to get your own router in many cases. For example the cheap TP-Link Archer AX72 (below S$100 for BNIB units from Carousell) will be much better than Nokia Beacon 2.

But if you need MediaCorp FTA channels, you may want to upgrade to Linksys Velop MX4200 by Starhub.

My homehub plus (with old Fibre TV) contract is ending on 18/04. I was paying $85.00 PM, with recording option. Called/visited Starhub for options to recontract in the last couple of weeks. all they could offer was in excess of $95 with new TV+ set top box. I was thinking to move BB to M1 and TV to Singtel.
Yesterday morning received SMS from Starhub, with 1GB BB and TV+ Sports promotion on $73.57. In addition free TV+ Pro box rental free for 24 months, Netflix standard for 24 months, Amazon for 3 months and router upgraded to MX4200. Since I have opted for additional pass, I will be provided Disney for 24 months.
Was happy to accept the promotion, but error in website prevented me completing the sale.
In the end, yesterday evening went to Plaza singapura to complete the sale.
Monthly subscription with 24 months contract will be $88.71.
Happy with the deal.

For anyone who recently recontracted, does the new contract start from the date of recontract or the last day of the current contract?

If recontract 1-2 months earlier than current contract, what happens to the remaining payments for the current contract?

The new contract will start from the date of installation of the equipment. You can only recontract within one month of the expiry of the current contract. You can check in starhub app or login to account if you are eligible to recontract. If there are no installation involved, the recontract will start the day (+1 or 2 days), the day you signed the recontract.

Thanks! If i recontract today (no installation required), what happens to the remaining payments of the current contract?

Asking as I have a final instalment payment of my Nokia beacon 1 that will only be charged around late April.
