if the user experience is still acceptable to u, then i dont see any reason to upgrade. u can consider getting a pcie wifi card that can add wifi and bt support without the need for usb dongles.
i dont have any reason actually. my pc works great till to date. just that it's getting old in age.

if it's cheap enough to change, might as well do it. haha

my son wants to have a big 4k gaming monitor to play his games but he has an older PC. Mostly play Roblox but also Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary. Any point to upgrade this system? or convince him to get a 1440p gamning monitor instead.

AMD 3600x
MSI Gaming X 3060 12G
32 GB DDR4 (4 stick)

*I have only been looking at the new items when buying my new PC so not sure about upgrading the older rigs.

IMO, no point upgrading this system for 4K coz CPU & GPU quite a way off 4K high-quality visuals with high framerates. Current system is weak, but still good enough for mid-quality 1440p visuals. So, either ...
  1. Stick to current system for mediocre 1440p gaming visuals & framerates OR
  2. Get a brand new high-end gaming PC for 4K gaming OR
  3. Stick to current system for high 1080p gaming visuals and framerates. An ultrawide 1080p gaming monitor will do a better job for immersion.

i wouldnt really consider stuff cheap nowadays. u could benefit from a vastly superior cpu to improve ur cs experience, but that in itself will already run up $350 at the minimum for a decent 5600 + b550m combo. and that is with ur current sticks of ram which are very slow by todays standards and will definitely hold back the cpu, and getting a more modern fast kit will run u up another $70-100. if i were u id just stick with the rig until ur use case changes to something more intensive or something dies, then consider upgrade. kind of how i havent changed my 580 since my first rig, the games i play are not v intensive (other than control, which i have already finished).

msfs is still very demanding, u would need cpu, mobo (potentially ram) and gpu upgrade on top of the cost of a 4k monitor to have a smooth experience. 1440p is more reasonable, maybe can use dlss to smoothen things out without having to commit to big system upgrades.

cheapest all black option with ddr5 support locally would be the asus tuf gaming h770-pro wifi d5. it is quite close to z790 pricing (not a bad idea since u are using a k sku), so u can also consider something like the msi pro z790-p wifi d5.

Thank you !! Is there anything I should watch out for when looking for a casing BTW? Any recommended brands and etc? Took at quick look and can't seem to find Asus Dual Rx 6700 everywhere. Is there any alternative to that . I was thinking of getting it all done at dynacore... get them to just assemble.

Hi @NightRaven49 ,

Thanks your input. I ended up looking at a potentially 4080 and only reason why is that in the case i wish to go to racing sim via VR in which the AMD offerings are still having some driver issues (i think).

From Invaderpc (dynacore) i believe
Supreme MK7 (I7-13700KF + RTX4080)
IS13700KF4080-WF32
INTEL I7-13700KF 3.40GHz 8+8CORE/24THREAD
ASUS PRIME Z790-P WIFI ATX AX ARGB
COOLER MASTER MASTER LIQUID 240L CORE ARGB AIO
KINSGTON FURY BEAST RGB DDR5 6000MHz 32GB(16GBx2)
MSI RTX4080 GAMING X TRIO 16GB TRIPLE FAN
CRUCIAL P3 PLUS 2TB GEN4 NVMe M.2
SILVERSTONE DA850-850W 80+ GOLD
CORSAIR 4000D AIRFLOW
DEEPCOOL FC120 EDITION 3-PACK ARGB

Do you think i should not look so far forward but get a lower speced one and swap out the GPU only if i go towards VR? If so, which processor and board should i go for ?

Thanks

Hello all, seens like superflower pro is oos everywhere. Is Asus Tuf psu ok? Or Corsair is better?
yup tuf is okay. can also consider the nzxt c gold series for not too much more, plus u get full modularity and double the warranty. corsair is generally good other than cv series, but is quite expensive. as kaixax mentioned, can consider asus rog strix series if have budget.

for video editing u would want to stick to intel with integrated gpu and nvidia gpu. while good for gaming, amd hardware does not play very well with the adobe suite like after effects or premiere pro. also, that motherboard is garbage so i would suggest something like this:
i5 13400 + msi pro b660m-a wifi - $547
kingston fury beast 2x 8gb 3600mhz cl17 ddr4 - $69
wd black sn770 1tb - $96
zotac rtx 3060 12gb twin edge - $439
cooler master mwe v2 gold 650w - $129
any case u like - $20 budget left, so likely will overrun 1.3k but a cheap one like the tecware flatline should be good enough.
i would suggest stretching ur budget by another $200 or so, since intel can make use of ddr5 which can provide a big jump in performance. windows is free unactivated, so if u dont care about cosmetic things like system themes and the watermark u dont have to pay to use it (which is also why i did not include the cost of keys in the build prices).

again, look at first post, there are case recommendations stashed away in a spoiler towards the end. maybe i should not use a spoiler ...

depends on which resolution u plan to play at. if 1080p, the value rig is enough. if 1440p, the high end rig is good. for 4k, can take the high end rig and upgrade the gpu to 4080 which should land around $3k.

yeah i heard rdna3 issues with vr, and in that case maybe settling on nv may be the safer choice since i dont think changing cards just for vr is worth the effort and cost. i looked on invaderpc website and saw this config for about 3.4k, which is a bit high given the lacklustre mobo, nvme and psu. u can take my suggestion for 4k msfs above with about the same performance for quite a bit less.

i would recommend people stay away from the 4060ti 8gb. u should not be paying so much for a system only with a 8gb card, around 1k is the limit imo. if ur looking for this level of performance, better to diy with a 6750xt.

Thank you for prompt reply and advice
Which DDR5 should i chose ?

BTW, is it okie to not get zotac and have other generic brand if the shop doesnt have them.

Hi @NightRaven49 ,

when you mention suggestion for 4k msfs above with about the same performance for quite a bit less are you referring to the specs below?

had the impression that the Z790 is a better chipset, i think i am probably wrong on this
