Finally managed to open my new account in android.

But how to activate the wechat pay option? Cannot find it in settings.

Do you see the QR code? At main menu, Under +, click select 收付款. A window will pop up. Tap on the知道了, should be able to see QR code and barcode.

Dunno whether it works. Haven’t used in China.

Seems like merchants have to scan our QR code for us to make payment .....are we able to use the scan function to make payment ? I just added my card

I am stuck after keying in all the personal particulars for enabling wechat pay, and was asked to verify with local bank info..

If I remember correctly, I just scanned the credit card info using the camera function. Then it was all captured.

ok, will try to use credit card details as bank details...but then, I am still in the stage to enable wechat pay and verification.. not sure if we are talking about the same thing..

After your ID verification with wechat + link to your local bank card.

You should be able to do the following
- Scan QR code in china to pay for taxi/vendors/staff
- You can even buy stuff from douyin live, taobao and stuff
- You can appear your QR code for merchant to scan you to pay and pay via your credit/debit card.

I use my wise card with the most favourable rate use it at china without an issue.

I believe there's still the daily/monthly/yearly limit still apply so I keep my alipay as spare as it can receive fund without china ID verification.

update, can use credit card for verification...and credit card also got the "wechat" $0 transaction reflected.

now my wechat pay seems all ok, can generate QR code....but yet to try if can pay..

most banks have conversion charges. you can try trust bank CC or youtrip CC which is based on the market rate without any additional charges.

I also managed to link my local credit card to my wechat and bring up the QR code for payment. During the setup, a deduction of 0.35 CNY ($0.07) was done and returned.

yes, different city needs a different card. The e-cards are free anyway.
Note even in same city, bus and MRT are different e-cards.

There's an option to cancel the card (not sure if it means permanently cannot apply again or not)?

Yes, I did.
You should receive a subsequent message :
- Your ID photo is being reviewed
Followed by
-ID photos are approved.

However, I have not tested my wechat pay in China yet.

Mine got instantly rejected coz I uploaded a photo lol. Hence I am asking here if that step is necessary. If it is not then I dont have to bother scanning

Iirc, I scanned and uploaded a photo of the passport.
