He can plan stay 2 night each so wont be that rush also then after that go back to chiang mai spend the rest of the days there
10days, minus arrive and departure 2 days gone.
If 2 nights each, left Chiang Mai 4 nights only.

Been to Pa Pong Piang twice. Very narrow roads. Good to pair together with Doi Inthanon as it’s actually situated at the “back” of Doi Inthanon.
Around early October, when the rice plant is ripe, the whole field is a golden colour. Very small time window to visit before harvesting starts.

Visit a long neck tribe village next to Wat Tharathip Chai Pradit at Mae Taeng district.
Admission is free, don't need to pay 500 baht.

Anyone tried the river tubing in Pai and the Tham Lod cave? Care to share your personal experiences of these two places?

Usually camp site, you need to bring your own tent. Unless you book glamping then don't need. There are many glamping sites outside of Chiang Mai. famous one is at mae rim.

When driving in Chiangmai, Pai, Mae Hong Son, do we need to buy any toll cards to pay for tolls?
What about parking fees at the roadside and shopping malls?
To rent cars in Chiangmai (Thailand), I read that Thailand can Singapore driving license, no need Int. Driving license, correct?

No toll fees as routes are national roads.

Most malls parking are free. Not all roadside can park. In any case if need fee will have attendant come collect. Usually 20b-50b.

Yes SG license will suffice.

Thanks Fre.

Another question on driving in Chiangmai, I was browsing the rental cars companies and saw popular Vios & City available for rental. Are these two cars powerful enough to drive to Mae Hong Son & Pai and back to Chiangmai esp. given the mountainous roads.

Powerful enough, but get cars rated at 2.0 or better, as handling will be better.
