my cimb has a holding amount of 3xxrm but i only has one pending transaction left which is only 16x.xx. there is a 172rm difference which i duno hold for what. is it only way is to call the bank to ask? or need to go down? anyone face such issue before?
Apparently, one can get more things done over the phone (like activating and deactivating services), but I'm one who finds it easier to visit their Jalan Kuning branch. Can ask them about this issue.

I only noticed from their ATM that they do hold a certain amount, though it's <RM100... maybe RM20 or RM30.

open at CIMB Malaysia, open on the spot, takes 30-45mins. Prepare RM 250 cash as initial deposit.
Dont need appointment. Can walk in. Tell them you are opening a non-resident account
All CIMB MY branches only open on weekdays as well.

Need Malaysia phone number and Malaysia address (you can try to convince the CSO to use your SG phone otherwise)

Hello Garlic & Butter, do you happen to know if we can open a non-resident account at other branches besides Jalan Kuning (Pelangi) branch?

Can try the branch at Southkey Mosaic. Newer branch and the staff are just as friendly. If they really don't allow, Jalan Kuning is just a short Grab ride away.

Hello Habrosus, thanks for your response. I was thinking of going to the Nusa Bestari (near Bukit Indah) branch but on second thought, I should probably just head to Jalan Kuning to avoid unnecessary hassle.

For me, it took a total of 10 days, from the appt at the Bank to receiving the Malaysian account details via courier at home. Watch the youtube video by Kelvin on opening a Cimb MY account from Singapore. It is very well done, and easy to understand.

Hmm. The closest is at CIMB Bank @ Jalan Segget, basically right beside jb city square. Anybody opened here?

Need malaysia address? What do you people use?

Wouldn't mind doing it in Singapore, but I'm leaving in a few weeks and the earliest appointment for SG is in June lol.

Also, which is the account type you open in malaysia for no atm and fall below fees?

Didn't want to wait until July, so I went down to open a CIMB Malaysia account at CIMB @ Jalan Segget, 5 mins walk from city square jb.

Initially went down on tuesday but network down (I guess that can happen lol), so went back again yesterday.

Need
- Passport
- IC
- Malaysia phone no (didn't check if can use SG no)
- 250 RM deposit (via CDM after completion, didn't check for deadline, should be within 30 days)

Don't need
- Msia address, can use SG address

You'll get a debit card on the spot.

Weekday around 11.30am, not too many people, waited for 2 people before me and including my application, total time about 40mins. Pretty much hassle free.

-----
Looks like they gave me the 'eco i-savings' account. Supposed to be a paperless account, fair, but the debit card is Rm15 a year. No fall-below, withdrawal fees, etc, as far as I know, but the rm15 a year seems a bit like an excuse.

I think there's supposed to be a basic account where the debit card is free. Will see if I can switch to that after like 6 months or something.

I came across a post elsewhere from a Malaysian who successfully changed his account type from a regular savings account to a basic savings account in 2019. His internet banking still works and linked accounts / cards are still there without changing login credentials.

However, the overwhelming consensus both online and offline is, to get a basic savings account, you need to close the regular savings account and open a new basic savings account. A new debit card would be issued, and you need to create a new login ID. Accounts under your old login ID are view only. You also need to re-link CIMB Clicks Singapore to CIMB Clicks Malaysia. It's really a hassle.

Just wondering if any non Malaysians have successfully changed their account type from the regular savings account to basic savings account, or opened a basic savings account from the get go. Thanks in advance!

I would want to renew, and will.

We'll never know what new patterns those companies will come up with. Yes, even with accessibility to TnG eWallet.

Is there really a need to open a Malaysia bank account why not just use touch and go (TNG) to settle all the problems. This application can send money to Malaysian bank as well. Another way is to get the TNG visa card this visa card can draw money from the touch and go app as well
