Flip properties might also be possible
Hard enough to project salary and bonus over the next few years, let alone gains from trading shares and property.

The only possible certainty is from trust funds?

I got 100% gain over past 3 years so 3m x 2 = 6m.
you need to consider the magnitude. Your gains include salary and bonus. So unless he is a high flyer with 400-600k income, it is quite presumptuous to assume a 3m increase in 3 years (esp in terms of percentage).

If my networth is 10m, a 3m gain in 3 years seems plausible without taking excessive risks

I think its totally fine for each person to set his own internal targets for portfolio growth. If hwmook doesn't make it in 3 years and takes 6 years instead, I'm sure he'll still be fine ... but at least trying is better than not trying at all 😅

of course, I am just curious to find out the basis of his assumption which could prove to be educational for the rest of us

I did try to project my networth for the next 7 years assuming I am gainfully employed but alas I was retrenched this year so that projection needs some revision

You guys never read hwmook posts in the past meh? His networth is almost all in in AMD.
It is possible that AMD can double up in next 3 year.

I feel you. China brutalizes and tortures me. But...I like it.
Anyway,
Dec 2023 -> +/-2.3m.
Today -> +/-2.5xm. Some dumb luck with options.
I am considering doing a full writedown of my China endowus unit trust portfolio which is now worth 46k(original investment of 60k less than a year ago). It is a small fraction of my 1.5million worth portfolio. But it is torture to watch is go down every day. Instead I just take one off hit and then stop tracking it and if it goes to zero, I don't care, since I already accounted for it.

Read news banks starting retrench. A look at LinkedIn typically most IT roles retrenched folks plenty. Duestche Bank, Google, Meta etc you name it all there

If it is a broad based UT, perhaps just leave it as part of your developing market exposure. I have EIMI as well which is underwater but I just lump it with IWDA to effectively be like ISAC

i just got laid off. Worst case would be can't find job and start drawing down on cash savings. I don't see any likelihood drawing on investment unless I am fully retired or can't a job for 1 year or longer
