I will suggest you contact Starhub to negotiate a better recontract price for your 1Gbps plan.
For cheaper plans like SIMBA 2.5Gbps (CGNAT without IPv4 add-on, not proven in terms of stability) and WC 2.5Gbps (ONR, aggregated 2.5Gbps, may have bad routing and not good for gaming) at S$21.80 per month, there will be compromises to make.

Noted. Thanks for your advice.
Pity they removed all the lower speed options

So what choices are u going for…

Contract will only expire in the end of August. Most likely I will stay with Singtel 1Gbps plan (using ONT, paying S$40.65 per month now).

Singtel is sending me offers to go with 2.5Gbps plan (aggregated 2.5Gbps, using ONR) which I have no interests. I will wait for futher offers to see how it goes. Then towards the end I will just contact them to ask to recontract the 1Gbps plan at S$40.65 or below. Some people got better offers.

should have no problem doing that. I received the re-contract price at $37.90 that comes with a new WiFi 6 router without any negotiation. since you do not need the router, maybe you can get it at a even lower price??

That being said, I will stick to my non-contract S$30.46 Starhub 500Mbps plan.

I am using Starhub 500Mbps plan (out-of-contract since 2020) at S$30.46 per month and intend to keep using it.

This is because that Starhub 500Mbps (or M1 500Mbps plan which is still available to new users) is still of great value.

For lower cost, you have to go with either SIMBA 2.5Gbps (CGNAT, no static IPv4 add-on, not proven in terms of stability or international routing) or Whizcomms 2.5Gbps (ONR, aggregated 2.5Gbps, higher latency to some internalnation locations and therefore may not be good for gaming) at S$21.80 per month, then there are compromised to make for both plans.

I went to Singtel shop , 39.90 for 2gbps 1 yr recontract.. I’m also on tv trio which will be given at 17$ recontract all with gst.. with StarHub epl.. (if ala carte now recontract 40$) hence, unsure whether should I continue with this way..

StarHub 10gbps ultra speed +home hub is 110 .. they bundle up epl with 10gbps but throw in Netflix and disney(valid till mar 2025 only) not sure whether it’s worth.. im not sure whether can set this up with my ASUS ax6000 rig router as I’m on aimesh.. but I will lose out the 10gbps speed . With the new router I can’t mesh liao haha

Since you need to watch football match, I think it makes sense to go with Starhub 10Gbps plan with the EPL bundle.

Setup should not be difficult and you can continue using your AImesh setup.

Example connection scheme, using two wireless SSID.

Nokia XGS-PON ONT -- TP-Link EB810v (10G WAN), with wireless SSID 1
TP-Link EB810v 10G LAN port -- PC with 10G NIC (can be purchased later)
TP-Link EB810v 2.5G LAN port -- Asus ROG GT-AX6000 AImesh main node in AP mode (2.5G WAN port), with wireless SSID 2
TP-Link EB810v 2.5G LAN port -- other Asus AImesh mesh node
TP-Link EB810v 2.5G LAN port -- wired device

But I would be paying about 12$ more monthly..

Means 3 more node setup vs 2 node currently.. if without aimesh then will have 2 ssid.. but no mesh. And sell one of my node.. haha argh..

My internal lan are all on cat5 anyway.. every lan port can only served 1G lol

How much did you pay Singtel now for Fibre Internet + EPL?

Starhub 10Gbps plan is at S$69.95 which already includes EPL.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband.html

Are you really paying only S$58 to Singtel for 1Gbps Fibre + Singtel TV with EPL?

You can even sell the EB810v (at around S$400) and continue using your AImesh setup, just treat it as 2.5Gbps plan...

Nokia XGS-PON ONT - Asus ROG GT-AX6000 AImesh main router (2.5G WAN port)
GT-AX6000 2.5G LAN port or 1G LAN port -- other Asus AImesh mesh node

My current setup,

Singtel 1gb $39.90 + trio pack tv (with sports) $18 (if recontract will be same price but broadband given will be 2gbps) with 10% of because of the Singtel circle

starhub epl $35 (new price is $41 rounded up)
So technically is (39.90 + 18 ) with Singtel circle + 41 = $96-97

If using ASUS.. is there a StarHub profile for setup; Singtel there is already a preset profile for asus

if using the eb810v.. not sure how customizable it is (can vpn config router, or have various protection like ASUS) , either I get another same router (bulky piece) to do mesh or is there any thing else to pair with this for mesh? This may mean I would have to sell my ASUS pair

I see, so you are comparing your current Singtel setup with Starhub HomeHub+ 10G (S$110 per month). That is probably not a fair comparison since Starhub has much more contents and bundled with TP-Link EB810v (about S$400 value).

Starhub does not use VLAN for internet, so no need to set up any profile.

You can not expect the same FW feature from TP-Link EB810v as the Asus.

As for whether to go with Starhub or Singtel, that is up to you. You can always negotiate with Singtel to keep using 1Gbps if you prefer to stay with Singtel. No point to go with 2Gbps as it is using ONR. It seems to me you are using Singtel ONT and use your Asus router's feature. I personsonally consider Singtel 2Gbps/2.5Gbps plan with ONR is a DOWNGRADE compared to Singtel 1Gbps + ONT.

Yup I’m actually looking a plan that is somehow similar to the one I’m having.. but there isn’t currently. And yes, would prefer ont .. which only the Homehub+ 110 per month provides. I was told the rest are on onr..

Not so sure who told you this.

Since you are looking at bundled plan, Starhub only provides HomeHub+ 1G and HomeHub+ 10G and both are using ONT.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/bundles/homehub-plus/1gbps.html

HomeHub+ 1G has no free EPL. HomeHub+ 10G (UltraSpeed) has free EPL.

Customer service .. hahaa
Yup limited options I guess.. thanks for highlighting that the Singtel 2gbps is on onr.. means likely they will change my ont to one when I recontract… anyway they also confirm the removal of 1gbps from sales. So u either pay for more after your contract over or recontract.

I do not think it is a free upgrade. I think it is for both new sign-up and recontract.

In your case, you may want to call Starhub to see if they allow you to change to this new S$39 2Gbps plan.

info is scant on their site, this 2Gbps plan sound suspiciously like 1+1Gbps :s22:
Actually I was just looking at it now and it makes no mention of it being 1+1 or not. My contract is over for the 1Gbps SH and I can't even find 1Gbps plans now. If this is proper 2Gbps, I do not mind upgrading. If it is 1+1, does not mean much. My room where I host my router only has 1 RJ45. I am prepared to get a 2.5G router if this is a pure 2Gbps connection. What is up with all the revamp of the plans on SH now anyways?

You should totally look at it even if it is 1+1. The plan we just signed up is the 1Gbps and monthly is actually 43+ the 38 SGD was after taking into account the 3 months free. So technically it will cost less to have this plan esp after contract ends etc. Will likely give them a call later tonight to confirm the details and see if they allow us to sign/upgrade to this plan instead (they haven;t even come check the fibre {thats tmr..})

Should be 1+1
https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=IzWmqNLUyB2z3slc37MV16

they use ultraspeed branding for 5/10 gbps

Hoot the 5gbps with ont is better, i think 1+1 will provison both your tp ports means next time more work to switch isp?
