Case has been pending since 15 August 2024.

Just tried to contact SingTel through WhatsApp again to see how it goes.

Singtel person who was handling the case just called -- he just got the confirmation that there was an issue and they would need to send a technician down.

Appointment booked next Tuesday afternoon. Let's see how it goes.

Singtel person came and then he told me that Singtel IPv6 got some stability issues with Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps plan.

Anyway, I showed him this thread and told him I would like to have IPv6 enabled. Then he told me the team in charge is not working this afternoon but he would ask them to do it tomorrow. Let's see how it goes.

1. Just an update: the Singtel person is very good and managed to get the backend to enable dual stack IPv4/IPv6 for me.

After removing the non-working 6rd profile, reboot the ONR and everything is working now on the ZTE F8648 XGS-PON ONR.

2. Tests done
First test shows that LAN clients of the Singtel ZTE F8648P ONR get IPv6 working.

Second test: set up Asus RT-AX86U behind ZTE F8648P ONR (Double NAT) to pass through IPv6, then the wireless clients of Asus RT-AX86U get IPv6 working. [Edit: this does not seem to be stable, sometimes working and sometimes not working. Work-around is to use local DNS server and not automatic DNS server, need to monitor if this is stable or not].

Third test: remove the working WAN 6rd profile of the virtual OpenWRT router (Double NAT) and use DHCPv6 and then relay DHCPv6 and RA, then wireless clients of the ZTE BE7200 Pro+ AP (connected to virtual OpenWRT router) get IPv6 working.

3. Downside is that I can not confirm whether it is /56 or not from the ZTE ONR.

ZTE ONR --> 2400:d802:d10::xxxx

Today, I believe I might be the only ONR user with native IPv6. My RIPE Atlas probe is the only Singtel probe with IPv6. And I can say it works very well - hitting 1Gbps on fast.com speedtest :)

Now I got Singtel ZTE F8648P ONR (unbridged) to work with Singtel native IPv6.

Speed is no issue (other than known problem with M1 and SIMBA SpeedTest server.

Bash:

Call them and refer to this thread. Tell them you need Singtel Native IPv6 and not 6rd.

I am a bit lucky that the Singtel technical staff visited me knew what I wanted and managed to get the backend network team to activate native IPv6 for me.

The other users' experiences mentioned many more iterations.

SIngtel ZTE F8648P ONR native IPv6 work-around if you choose to use your own router/routers behind the ONR (Double NAT).
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/ipv6-discussions.6976522/page-10
Somewhat a hack -- working around for LAN/wireless clients behind Double NAT, since Singtel ZTE F8648P XGS-PON ONR does not seem to be able to delegate /64 IPv6 to sub-routers. Tests show that the following work-arounds work well under both Windows and Linux (should work under macOS and BSDs as well).

1) one of the sub-router uses Singtel 6rd (only one instance of 6rd allowed).
2) the other sub-routers running OpenWRT can use NAT66 (not supported by pfSense and Asus).
https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/ipv6/ipv6.nat6

In this case, I use Singtel 6rd on RT-AX86U; Using NAT66 under OpenWRT. No solution for pfSense yet.

Singtel ONR (native IPv6) -- LAN clients get IPv6 using DHCPv6
Singtel ONR (native IPv6) -- RT-AX86U in router mode with Singtel 6rd -- LAN/wireless clients gets IPv6 access
Singtel ONR (native IPv6) -- OpenWRT virtual router (Double NAT) with NAT66 --LAN/wireless clients get IPv6 access

Hi, Singtel is asking me to send a screenshot of the ipv6 settings. do you think you can share the ipv6 settings from the modem so I can show them? they are telling me it can't be done. you can blank out any personal ip addresses etc.

Nothing. There is nothing you can do on the Singtel ONR side. It is a backend thingy. The backend will push some configuration to the Singtel F8648P ONR which cannot be seen from the Web UI. From the Web UI we can just see the status that the ONR got IPv6 address.

Tell them that this is an advanced topic and typical Singtel technical people can not help. Need backend network team to do it.

I am lucky that the front end staff knew the issue is beyond his capability (since I empahsized to him and show the screenshots in this thread and the other thread), but he managed to get the right Singtel staff to come to my flat. And the staff who came to my flat knew the way to talk to the backend people to enable Singtel native IPv6 on my account.

This is what I told the Singtel staff visting me after he went back. He was trying to talk to the backend from my flat but told me the backend staff was not around. But later he did get the backend staff to get it done.

I mentioned to him that the user yjwong got Singtel native IPv6 working for the Singtel F8648P ONR, so that he could use it as an edvidence to talk to the backend people.

Once he got in touch with the right the backend people, it was done within a minute.

The two posts by @yjwong on 9-July-2024 and 13-August-2024.

I quoted his second post on 13-August-2024 to the Singtel staff who visited me, to show him that things can be done.

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/ipv6-discussions.6976522/page-8

I just signed SingTel 5 Gbps Enhanced plan recently. The sales person checked in with their superiors on whether IPv6 was available, and the answer was yes and needs to be enabled on an account-by-account basis.

Fast forward, now that everything's gotten installed, I made a request to enable IPv6. The CSOs did understand my request on first try, and they sent someone down to my house, who also seemed to understand IPv6 but was curious as to why I needed it. Unfortunately, the field technician didn't succeed at enabling it after a few phone calls to their backend team.

I had initially placed the ONR in bridged mode, which the technician suspected to be the issue. But I'm quite sure it wasn't, since it's the same router that I used for M1, which had native IPv6 since quite a while back). After a couple of back and forth, we decided to revert the ONR back to default configuration, but IPv6 also didn't work.

The technician promised to file an internal ticket and I was then asked to check back in 2 weeks' time. Will see how things go...

Seems like it's still quite early days for SingTel IPv6.

Fast forward, after a whole bunch of calls and 2 field engineer visits later, today SingTel finally enabled native IPv6 for my account.

However, it was quite short lived - while I was trying to enable port forwarding/DMZ, I forgot my password and had to reset the router. Upon reset, native IPv6 was gone.

This was quite interesting, because it suggests that it isn't just something at the account level, but something to do with the configuration on the F8648P itself. It might be some kind of configuration push to the ONR?

I'm not sure, will contact SingTel again and see how this goes.

That said, now that M1 has 2.5 Gbps, kind of regret signing up. M1 was much more hassle free in both having bridge mode + native IPv6.

My timeline to get Singtel IPv6:

1) Create the technical support case on 15-Aug-2024 with the front end technical support staff.
2) Finally got the update on 31-Aug-2024 from the front end technical support staff that Singtel would send a technical staff to visit me on Tuesday 3-Sept-2024.
3) Singtel staff visited me on the afternoon of 3-Sept-2024 and he managed to get the backend staff to enable native IPv6 on my account.

The two staff are all pretty good in this case.

I see, ok I think they wanted to see this, if you are able to provide anything from your settings that show how its enabled.

sorry, but how many IPv6 types are there?

understand that you wanted native IPv6, so native-ipv6 = dual stack?

Yes, native IPv6 in this case is the same as dual stack IPv4/IPv6.

Native IPv6 itself basically means not using IPv6 transition mechanism like 6rd (eg: Singtel 6rd), Tunnel Broker/6in4 (eg: Hurricane Electric IPv6 Tunnel Broker) and DS-lite. Rather it is using native IPv6 ways like DHCPv6 (with Prefix-Delegation or without Prefix-Delegation) and/or SLAAC.

DHCPv6-PD: DHCPv6 with Prefix-Delegation.

Singtel native IPv6, Starhub and M1 support both DHCPv6-PD and SLAAC.

This is basically the outcome, not the configuration. The configurations will be pushed by Singrel backend.

The following is from my Singtel ZTE F8648P ONR.

Thanks I am waiting for them to call back now.

already shared this thread.

can you also show me your pon information page. I had a tech staff come here and said I’m not getting enough power that’s why my ipv6 isn’t working.

Sorry but this page should not matter. The staff is talking nonsense.

Tell him that he is not qualified to handle this issue and ask Singtel to change to another person.
