Govt intends to stop masking NRIC numbers, says there is not 'much value in doing so'

Why should NRIC assumed to be known? So next time can news ctr include a NRIC of a sinkie criminal in the news as well?

"There should therefore not be any sensitivity in having one’s full NRIC number made public, in the same way that we routinely share and reveal our full names to others."

Certainly we introduce ourselves to others by our name not NRIC number right? If there should not be any sentivitity in sharing NRIC number in public why is there introduction to mask our NRIC number? If now no need, I would expect all govt agencies website to share all civil servant NRIC number of each ministry website, after all govt should set the example for it's citizen. If cannot be done, den don't expect us to shallow this new ****

If my terrorist-like ex kee siow wants to comb for me with just my unique name and DOB, he would need to find someone who knows how to use BASIC ALGORITHMS (the above paragraph put it as if almost everyone knows) to get my full IC number. This requires another layer of effort which may put him off.

There are many reasons why some people want to be 'hidden'. I know of some people who want to hide away from their abusive spouses / ex-spouses, parents etc. This basic privacy should be given.

Wow, very scary. Scammers can directly call your bank or phone service provider hotline and verify perfectly using your NRIC and DOB (if they get hold of all your particulars).

This is going to open a whole series of issues going forward…

Now it will be easier for scammers to scam, given that they have more data to authenticate a potential victim.
