The Porsche 911 Turbo (930) is nicknamed "the Widowmaker" because of its tendency to oversteer and crash. This is due to its rear engine layout and short wheelbase.

Why is it called the Widowmaker?
  • The 930's handling characteristics were unfamiliar to many drivers.

  • The 930's rear weight distribution made it difficult to maintain control.

  • The 930's turbocharger would kick in at high RPMs, causing the car to oversteer.

  • Inexperienced drivers would often cut through an apex, expecting to maintain power, but would lose control when the turbo kicked in.
