Yup. Shawn changed his surname to a Chinese one, right before the GE2020, to appeal to the Chinese voters. But my relatives living there smelled his bull sheet of playing the racial card. While he can change his surname, to whatever crap he likes, he can't change his race on IC. I dug out his past to find out that he sued one of the local journalists for publishing his polytechnic yearbook or graduation photo, which stated his Indo Surname. I saw that article and his picture and name to confirm that he went by his Indo surname for many years. I investigated further to discover that one of Shawn's relatives, a younger one, serves in the airforce (military, I can't remember), but retain his Indonesian name. I also read from a source that claimed that during the NDP, he was reprimanded for taking the food not for him and his response was unacceptable. As for his name change, this goes to show that Shawn will do anything, including betraying his Indonesian background to advance his political interest.

I know the market 505, but I didn't know about the renovation saga.

This one is not really simple to be honest. His family changed their surname to assimilate and sound Indo in order to not get persecuted in the past. I know Indo Chinese who have the same surname as mine and changed it back to normal Chinese (Hokkien) form when they returned for NS, because that's their true identity.

Only Shawn knows why he changed his surname back.

so i think challenging a PAP stronghold is a good surrogate marker that indicates how well or badly PAP is doing their job.

so why enter to fight if he dosent need to win anyway ?

its not throwing away money if he has yet to earn it. sure, the 13k is an opportunity cost. but im just suggesting he doesnt need more money, especially if he values serving the country more than just reaping in MP salary and zuobo. he probably has deep enough pockets as a former investment banker.

why does he fight when he loses? as peasants, we would pick battles that we are sure to win.

but hes already a winner in life. he sees challenges and a purpose and he fights for us. wheres the wrong in that?

essentially. you and i cant judge him. we are peasants. hes above us and has a calling to serve. dont bring him down to our level

the first few topics he brought to parliament was the key questions sinkie have on their minds but otherwise neglected or disregarded for many years

although he not a very good english debater back then (struggle to defend himself with all the bullying, luckily the bully got booted) but can see he improve throughout the years
