For around $500 budget is the R9 or sense9 or pixel 8a better? I read a few reviews all complain the R9/sense9 camera is not very good…

Buy a second hand Sense 9 for $300

It's just a licensing thing.
Sharp can't use the Leica branding outside of Japan.

I quite like the look of sense9 small and compact. my current phone is second hand and battery dying liao… want to buy a brand new phone next time hopefully can last for 4-5 years.

Sense 9 has the perfect build & size for guys who put their phones in their front or side pockets.
The design is cute too.
It may have better macro photo mode than a R9.
The SOC is a bit weak & old for 2025 but honestly isn't too bad for it's unofficial price point.

The R9 pro hardware on SG, JP, TW & ID model are the same. But the selling price in SG is the cheapest among the 4 countries, just that SG model is without the Leica branding logo on the phone, whereas TW, JP & ID model have the Leica logo on it.

Price tag at each country during launch...
In Taiwan, price tag is NT39,990 (approx. SGD1,670) during launch.
In Japan, sim-free R9 pro is 194,700yen (approx. SGD1,700) & Docomo version is 211,970yen (approx. SGD1,880) during launch.
In Indonesia, the launch promo price tag is IDR17,999,000 (approx. SGD1,400).
In Singapore, the launch promo price tag is SGD1,319.
If you want the Leica branding logo, then you need to pay for a higher selling price.

Try booting in Android Safe mode to rule out any possible application issues.

I'll have a look. I haven't heard the term safe mode for many years, and it was for my desktop computer.

I was off with that. Sharp can't use the Leica licensing in most countries.

It is out for Sense 8 late March & R9 sometime in April. Likely this month bah.
