Simba my main lines and iPads, Eight spares in iPads and spare phones. Simba works well enough at central region home, 5G in east-bound train rides from Buona Vista in iPads, and presently posting from iPad in Hougang Minton Park area with 5G.

And yes, I put my trust in Simba for my crossborder trips, after past horrendous experiences with ST.

Lately found Eight spotty in Harbourfront-bound train from Kovan, even no connection between certain stations.
I thought ST is best for cross border ?

After taking up to a few hours to finally get a network?!?

The worst experience I got was getting a network only after I'd gone from BSI to Taman Molek, ran an errand, gone to a cafe, ordered my lunch before getting on WhatsApp (with my Hotlink line which I'd earlier on used to get my Grab ride), finished my lunch, paid, went outside before I could finally end the conversation and got a network connection. (And meanwhile my other lines have already got to the likes of Hotlink, Digi, M1 to Celcom. That's before Eight was launched.)

I even had to teach them that auto/network roaming is NOT data roaming, and that I couldn't even get a Malaysia network. 🤦‍♂️ It's a regular weekday so no excuse.

Best part, they even suggested letting the phone auto detect network, when Singtel can be detected all the way to JB Sentral! Nice try, Sinktel 🤦‍♂️

How's that the best when I don't even have to do anything with a line that costs (at least!) half the price coz i can turn on Data Roaming 24/7 and especially not worry about network whenever I want to use my phone to pay for something at the shop in BSI or receive a call in KSAB?

We're talking about getting a network to receive a call, not even gone to needing or not needing data connection! And oh, just the other week someone here shared a similar experience of having to struggle to get a Malaysia network with his line, so they've hardly improved.

May be best for you, but not for me. 🍋

Currently in Penang, telco states 502 16 instead of the usual Maxis or Umobile.

did a google search and results shows it’s Digi

IIRC Eight's got CelcomDigi in their partner list as well?

Anyway, such numbers used to appear on my Android phone at BSI/Woodlands, before I switched to Apple devices.

Yes, Eight recently added CelcomDigi as a roaming partner in Malaysia.

Celcom and Digi merged in late 2022 in corporate terms. Their networks are in the process of merging. Exactly which network names (or numbers) display on your phone may depend on where you are, what phone you have, and what software level(s) you have installed. Ordinarily you’ll just let your phone automatically select a network unless you suspect there’s some problem a manual network selection would solve.
