In terms of distance?
My mesh node is in the bedroom beside my master bedroom, while lying on the bed in my MBR which is separated by a wall and around 4-5m distance, I can easily get 1.2-1.4 gbps on my pixel 9 pro xl which unfortunately only supports 160mhz band. If have 320mhz device I believe should easily get 2gbps+

So if i want to use my ethernet points without changing the current router placement, can i put an IP switch into the DB box connecting it with the ONT as per MR technician's suggestion or do i have to put a router inside?

Thanks.

You have to put a router inside, not a typical dumb switch.

Please refer to the following FAQ mentioned in the sticky thread on top of this forum (Post #50).
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/understanding-the-abcs-of-home-networking.6653421/page-3

How to put the main wireless router out of DB box in the central location and keep room LAN ports functional?

Option 1-- put one router in the DB Box, it can be the ONR, wired router or wireless router
Option 2 -- only possible if you have two LAN ports close to each other in the living room (or other room), then you can add a switch in the DB Box.
Option 3 -- with two managed switch, only for more advanced users. 10Gbps capable managed switches may not be cheap either.

Hi, want to check for those under M1 where do you place your ONT? My fibre termination point is in the db box so the technician placed the ONT there. It's a Huawei HN8250Ts model, however it feels very hot to the touch. I fear it might be overheating inside. In comparison my Asus BT10 also in the db box feels relatively cool.

Is there anything I can do? Can't really keep the db box open either since it will block my main door from opening.
Was about to ask the same question.
And saw some posst on the hot ONT box by M1.
The white Huawei ONT is hot to touch, I left it inside my cabinet but brought out to leave it in the open.

Seem like I am not having the same worry . Not sure if feedback to m1 will they look into it.
Comparing to Simba ONT box, it is not as hot.

Thanks. I did read this post and and saw your option 3 which i thought was what the MR technician mentioned but since you say its more for advanced users, i think i better forgo the idea. The way the MR technician described to me its like very simple, just put a switch inside which contradicts what i read here and elsewhere.

I ordered a router cooler platform from Taobao after reading some of the earlier posts here that mentioned about the Huawei ONT running hot, ha. Thought I better standby when M1 tech comes over my place for ONT installation soon :)

There's really no need too, plenty of people just dump it in their DB box and let it cook there. My 1st gen black Huawei ONT got too hot to touch too but it still lasted over 8 years with no issues. House fires are caused by bad PMDs, not bad ONTs.

Thanks for sharing, xiaofan!

My ONT appointment with M1 is already scheduled for end of this month. I will be on their 3Gbps plan and already bought a new 2nd BE230 router to prepare to set up an EasyMesh network using Ethernet backhaul. Not expecting high end performance but since it is as you shared, at the very least better than Singtel's AX5400, that would certainly be good enough for me, ha 😆

Currently, while on the Singtel 2Gbps plan with the AX5400 mesh setup, my cellphone and tablet devices are always between 880 and 940 Mbps, which is peak performance to me 🙂 Oddly, my new 4-month old Aftershock PC only stays within the 400 to 550 Mbps Wifi 6 range. All my devices are used within my bedroom which has the secondary AX5400 mesh node on Ethernet backhaul.

Hopefully, with the upcoming change to the BE230 mesh setup, the Wifi speed for my PC could improve some 🙂
The reason is probably your PC network card is WiFi 5 (802.11 ac)
thats why its capped at 500mbps

Hi, The MR technician (sorry for posting in M1 thread instead) came to my place to install on Friday and did the connection as follows: TP- ONT- D12 (study room) which is where i prefer and the study room is also where the DB is located. So far everything is ok, happy with speeds and coverage and do not require a second router/mesh although my master bedroom range/speed is quite low but i can live with that.
So DB is in Study and preference is for the router to be outside the DB but still in Study, i.e. using port D12.
Is there any possibility of placing the router just above or beside the DB with cables running directly into the DB?
Or perhaps may want to test placing the router within the DB itself and see if signal strength is good enough throughout the house.

Alternatively, if any of your other rooms are centrally located in the house, and have two LAN ports, you may want to consider relocating the wifi router into that room.

I shifted my ONT to my tv console, it's actually very cool. I guess anything that's enclosed sure to turn up the heat, not just ONT.

Anyone else still experience the intermittent disconnections? I did a thorough test through the week and somehow seems to manage the problem. For those on the BE805, if you login to the admin console, there is a both a WAN/LAN option that says "flow control". You may want to turn that off. Apparently it controls an overstack/spike of data and "pause" the connection. After i turn off, so far the problem seems to go off.

Also testing with different cables, Cat8 cables doesn't seems to do well with the ONT and Router, best to stick to 6A/7.

Btw, did the DB come with the home or was it added as part of your home reno?
Curious thing was the D01 and D02 at the top-left of the DB - perhaps these two ports were intended to be in the Study but not within the DB itself? If so, perhaps can ask the reno team to rectify?
