I'm sure edmwers have lots of money to retire, more than they can spend in their life time hiring a helper and a private nurse simultaneously ...

Sorry to say, the strongest female nurse couldn't lift up my mother... Hiring nurse is very expensive in Singapore ... Helpers are cheaper but do you count on your helpers to remember what medicines your parents or yourself take when we are at age 65 or 75?

one eg.
3 levels of medications prescribed to prevent inflammation.

Level 1 Anti inflammation medication cause gastric, so doctor prescribed level 1 anti acid for level 1 anti inflammation med. In case level 1 anti acid not work, doctor prescribed level 2 anti acid, gaviscon as next level of protection.

If level 1 don't work, go
Level 2 anti inflammation drug and it caused nausea, so doctor prescribed level 2 anti vomit med.

If level 2 don't work, go
Level 3 anti inflammation drug caused nausea and shared the same anti vomit drug with level 2.

Doctor prescribed 3 levels of anti constipation medication
Level 1 is liquid
Level 2 is pills
Level 3 is physically applied to the butt...

Can we still follow such complication instructions when we are 65? How about 75?

Do we still have the same sane mind to decipher at 65 or 75? Or we expect the stay in helper to do that? If the stay in helper is not smart enough, we hire a stay in helper and a stay in nurse? Because the nurse probably couldn't lift us up when we are immobile at 65 or 75? How? Check ourselves into folks home as last resort? Then it only matters the children visit us at the home from time to time, so that those caretakers will not bully us when nobody's watching.
Easy. Just legalize euthanasia for people who are single or fly to switzerland to euthanize yourself while you are still sane.

Have kids doesn’t mean they can support you and or are willing to support you
It is 2025 now, not 1980s

Of course, you are right, nothing is guaranteed in life. Don't try, the chance is zero.

Sinkies can go extinct. Just bring in more FT.

We have a lot of runway and bandwidth - 6 9 million PWP back then by 2030.

Can just bring in more people directly from third world. No one going to say anything

nowadays kids throw their old parents in nursing home or old folks home.

sometimes the old parent have to admit himself into the hospital and nobody visit him. discharge also has to do it himself.

this is true unless the old parent is extremely rich then different story.

Agree with your point except most people I saw lacked the ability to fire way past 55... Let alone fat fire at 35... Assuming a small group can, I am guessing they will very soon ask what's the meaning of life, the usual questions few well to do edmwers always ask. 🤷
There is no answer to this question anyway.
Certain religious people will say meaning of life is serving god.

Everyone has to seek their own meaning in life.

I think you misunderstood my meaning... Point is, eventually everybody grows old and forgetful and lack the ability to self care. So, who do we rely on, the state? The folks home? The children? Probably a combination of all three.

I will try the best I could not to burden my children and reluctantly check myself into folks home and hoped the caretakers will spare me an ounce of leniency not to bully me, because they saw my children still visit me some times.

But we will grow old and loose self care one day regardless... 🙏😓

True. But that is on the state. I'm talking about our own well beings. 🙏

That's a sad solution and debatable in another long thread....🙏
there's nothing sad if you already done whatever you have on your bucket list.
there's nothing sad about death if one die without regret.
it is only sad if one leave the world with regrets.

Previously i have already said this asian mindset of having family then needing to feed so many people is the reason why no country in asia is a land of innovation unlike the west.

I brought my parents home upon their discharge and my family is pitch poor literally. It's just the family bonding. 😓

TS have selfish boomer mindset. Have children just for the sake of looking after him in old age.
Ultimately in the end, a child does not exist until a person give birth to him. It is ultimately the person who gave birth to the child wants the event to occur for a myriad of reasons.

you cannot choose whether to be born or not but you can definitely choose whether you want to have the next generation. Being born doesn't automatically create an automatic obligation to continue the cycle.

You are too family oriented.
You need to have family to feel that you have meaning in life.
Fortunately or unfortunately, not everyone in the world needs to have family to have meaning in life because if so, there will be much fewer inventions in the world.
