Cinemas used to be one of the people's favourite hangout places...

Until mall operators starts increasing rental that caused cinema operators to hike up movie ticket prices...

And why rent hiked? Because of inflated electricity, utilities prices? Because of inflated licensing prices? Because of greedy landlords?

Reallly orbigoot...
At present not many good movies are launching.. and most of them can be found on Streaming services later anyway.. what is the point even.... and many people nowadays have large screen TV at home also...

Ex is one main factor.... the other is..... the movies are getting super boring..... same old Dwayne muscle man movies...... similar story plots...... too much CGI......
Agree! Really not as interesting, exciting and engaging as the old era films, such as:
An Affair to Remember
The 12 Angry Men
Helen of Troy
Ben Hur
The Ten Commandments
The 300 Spartans
Lawrence of Arabia
The Magnificent Seven
A Bridge Too Far
The Longest Day
The Guns of Navarone
The Battle of Midway
Tora! Tora! Tora!
The Godfather trilogy
Indiana Jones movies, casting Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and Sean Connery as his father
The Last Samurai
Star Wars trilogy (episodes IV, V & VI)
Batman movies, casting Michael Keaton

Rather than spefically cinemas, my opinion is that it is emblematic/a symptom of the state of hollywood as a whole. Cinemas and hollywood is a true symbiotic relationship. They cannot live without one another. At the same time, it also means that their fortunes are tied with one another. Cinemas get a cut of the ticket sales.

At the moment, hollywood is suffering from poor quality movies with ever ballooning budgets. Whether it is due to dei being the root cause, it is clear that not as many people like watching their movies as before. That's not to say that they no longer have hits, but their success rate is very low, only every once in a while they get something good like deadpool vs wolverine.

As such, if few want to watch those movies, then few will go to cinemas as well. It's not just sg, but all over the world including the US itself.

Of course, streaming like netflix is a main factor as well but ultimately hollywood itself is very weak at the moment.

:(
Gaming industry now is a bigger industry than movie and music combined... that is why you see all those DEI creeping into gaming which now is totally back firing.. as it ends studio adopting the entire DEI ideology.

seriously u all find a movie tick at $15 VERY EX?

the biggest problem is no good movies nowadays.
all netflix quality/budget only.
Movie tickets cost $15 now? Wow, that’s expensive! I keep thinking it’s $7.

Tuition centre brings in the footfall as parents will need a place to chill/eat. Hence will have all the cafes and restaurants. In turn, bring in revenue

Cinema is a yesterday thing liao. Good to have gym inside mall, can see yoga pants zhezhe do shopping.
Tuition centre most sian one. Only those low ses malls u will find many tuition centres.
I wouldn’t even step into a mall with many tuition or enrichment centres. Dunno why the mall thinks all these can increase footfall? Probably the only people who will go into these malls will be the kids and their parents.
