I have a feeling those American politicians dislike how our leaders like Vivian or Gan Kim Yong keep highlighting the US trade surplus with Singapore, as if Singapore holds significant leverage and therefore we should not be subject to the 10% tariff. The American also likely find it very embarrassing when such points are raised publicly by our leaders, because it undermines their narrative of trade balance. Also seems like they are not receptive to small countries like us trying to bargain when they believe the deal is already favourable.
