Hi, just wondering if anyone has switched from XL to non-XL and regretted? Using a P8P now and thinking of changing to smaller pro mainly cos of the size. Other than smaller screen and battery, any other "regrets"?

Hi All

Is anyone experiencing slow charging via a wired charger?

My P9P sometimes charges at less than 10 watts, which means it can take 90 minutes to go from 20% to 80%.

This started from around the March Pixel update this year, was charging fine before I updated my phone. I have tried different chargers and cables but still the same, so I suspect it's a software issue.

Though i have 7 Pro, i had similar observations but rarely happens.

What worked for me was to do the following:
  • turn Battery health assistance off
  • turn charging optimisation off
  • cool the phone down as much as possible
  • restart phone
  • as last resort, turn Airplane mode on

It might work for you.

best that you go down to the shop and decide for yourself. for me it was a no-brainer as i wanted the smaller form factor

I read up on the battery assistance that slows charging speed and all. Will this be any issue? Never use pixel phone before

It seems like Google silently acknowledged that all their batteries will degrade fast / potential fire hazard after a few years that's why they implemented this battery assistance thingy to be safe??

No issue. Instead, I appreciate this gesture so that I can use the Pixel phone for a longer period without worrying much about the battery's longevity. Charging speed not too much of a concern since i have not encountered any of my Pixels taking super long to charge (like more than 6 hrs to charge to full). Typically, my phone is fully charged up in under 2 hrs.

If battery longevity and charging speed are a concern, you can consider replacing it with a brand new battery at the local Google service centre, and it is affordable, in my opinion. And also imo, good to change battery if you are a daily and heavy user once every 2-3 years. Fees are reflected here: https://www.ctdi.sg/page/google-service-center

btw i am not affliated to google nor the CTDI. I am a very happy Pixel 2 XL and 4a owner, and I had a very positive experience having their batteries replaced by CTDI. Just sharing :D

I soon will get my Pixel 7 pro battery replaced since it has gone way passed 800 cycles of charging.
