Probably not much better speed but rather better roaming performance (more seamless roaming).

Deco BE85 also has some better FW features, but kind of wasted when used with Singtel ONR in AP mode.

That is why power users want to bridge the ONR so they can use their own router as the main router for the whole network. But I guess you are not a power user and may not care too much about the FW features.

Even HB810 is also kind of wasted to go with SingTel ONR in AP mode.
I see. Can you explain what better FW features are there on the BE85 that are wasted when used with ST ONR in AP mode unbridged?

Similarly for the HB810 with ST ONR in AP mode, what features are wasted?

You are suggesting that I should set up HB810 as main in Router mode and sync it with HB611 as my node, even though both are wired to their LAN points? And then leave the BE85 in AP mode with its own separate SSID?

Sorry for the questions again

Hello, going to recontract my singtel 1 Gbps plan soon for home broadband. Due to inefficient home layout, we use 2 sets of 2 wifi meshes, was on the AirTies-branded ones.

Let's say I take 3 gbps now, what are my mesh options? Do I still need 2x2 wifi mesh or can I survive with one set or something?

How big is your house? And what do you mean by inefficient layout?

Singtel 10Gbps Enhanced Plan still cannot use own router? must use their bundle TP-link router?

1. All Singtel 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plans can use your own router, with a catch.

2. Singtel ONR will be the main router. Your own router can be configured in two ways.

1) AP mode, no Double NAT, but your own router will lose many features not related to wireless.

Singtel also configures the bundled TP-Link HB810/HB611-SGST in AP mode.

No impact to wireless performance.

Ethernet Backhaul is also easier as you can put ONR in DB box, connect main node to the ONR 10G port, connect slave nodes to the ONT 1G ports.

2) Router mode, Double NAT, your own router will maintain major part of its own firmware features, but some features may not work due to Double NAT.

No impact to wireless performance.

But this may cause issues with Ethernet Backhaul if you need to form a mesh, depending on your network Infrastructure. Your slave nodes need to connect to the LAN ports of the main node and not ONR LAN ports.

3. More about Double NAT and its disadvantages.

https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-double-NAT-and-why-is-it-bad

4. Because of the ONR, many power users have left SingTel I. Some power users choose to bridge Singtel ONT.

Average users should be fine with ONR.

I was using three Airties 4930 wireless backhaul to cover my home. Today, I upgraded to 3Gbps I am able to cover with just 2 HB611-SGST. But I'd like for my case 3 nodes would be the best for my case, I am still testing these few days before buying one more from carousell.

Er, direct LOS between my PC and router is blocked by air raid shelter. If on a router +2 mesh set up, my PC couldn't connect to the router directly or to a mesh unit in the living room, or the study beside. Have two TVs with STBs also ><

Yeah, I think mine was that too. AirTies 4920, 4 of them. Wonder if two will work for my case... hmm..

Yes, but once the terms and conditions have been modified to say no bridging, it is harder to press Singtel for official bridging.

I will suggest those who want bridged ONR to move away from SingTel, unless you want to take some risks and bridge the ONR manually.
Even for me a normal user who do not need bridging will be moving away from Singtel after the current contract finish. Had a very enduring upgrading experience with them last week and we will not recontract with them again. (n)(n)(n)

any advice for a current singtel 1gbps user to either renew (whether 1gbps or 3gbps), or jump ship to another provider (any recommendation)…

current monthly fee is $39. will not renew if they cant offer similar or better pricing…

1. If you are currently using SingTel ONR (unbridged), or Singtel ONT plus Singtel issued router, and you have no problems, then I think it is okay to renew with SingTel, since you will be okay with Singtel ONR.

2. The good recontract offer now:
SingTel 3Gbps plan at S$39.90 per month, with two Singtel HB611-SGST to form a mesh.

You may need to negotiate with Singtel to get the offer.

3. If not happy with the recontract offer they give you, consider moving out. Or if you do not like ONR (you like to use your own router to its full ability), then also consider moving out.

1) StarHub 3Gbps at S$29.55 per month with free TP-Link HB410.

You can also check if you are eligible for StarHub 10Gbps offer at S$33.59 per month with free TP-Link HB710.

Offer links are in the sticky thread.

2) M1 3Gbps at S$32.90 per month, with free Asus RT-BE58U or TP-Link Archer BE230.

So my current setup on SingTel 1Gbps is:

- ONR to Router (SSID1)
- Router to Mesh 1
- Set Top Box 1 to Mesh 2
- Set Top Box 2 to Mesh 3
- PC to Mesh 4

All meshes are slaved to router on SSID2. Might have done something wrong previously, not too sure. Just wondering if its possible for my new setup (looking at 3Gbps plan, don't really need the 5Gbps one) to look like the below?

- ONR to Router
- Set Top Box 1 to Mesh 1
- Set Top Box 2 to Mesh 2
- PC to best mesh unit in range

In any case I think it'll still cost more than the previous plan but it is what it is.

UPDATE 12/11: The revised setup works. There's only one SSID in my house now.

Hi all,

Just upgraded from my 1Gbps plan to the Singtel 3Gbps plan, and received the Nokia ONR.

Was wondering if it's possible to configure static DHCP addresses, due to some of my smart home devices. Currently when I try to do so via the ONR configuration site, the area is blanked out.
