what if i logged into a wifi where log-in is required? if no log-in, no internet one.
like airport wifi?
no call can go in or out right?
Then not going to have VoWIFI ah, since WIFI connectivity not established yet mah.
I believe calls should still work ah, as long as you have connectivity (signal).

Found out that a friend was having similar issue when I mentioned my encounter with a group.

He's seek Simba's help and was told that VoLTE has to be turned on.

True enough, I found mine turned off too, so I went to turn it back on and all is well.

But 1) I don't remember turning it off, as I hardly looked at it anyway. Could have happened during one of the latest iOS updates, when I found things missing and coming back as well, stuff like that. And 2) I don't see any such option to turn on/off on older iPhones...?

Anyway, will remember to check that option next time too.
Think ios 17/18 do not have volte option, is enabled by default.

Depends on the phone. Some phones keeps trying like iphone but Simba vowifi dont work on iphone. Samsung tries for a while then stops but might try later.

Restarting wifi or wifi calling will restart the retries

Best to have backup, then if don't want to continue can just terminate.
No harm especially if you are visiting China which recently there's reported IP/connectivity issues.

The $12 SIMBA plan is definitely a good option for China roaming now that it's upsized!

Yes, I will get SIMBA S$12 plan early December, before the short trip in mid-December.

Then I can compare the performance of SIMBA China roaming (26GB China Roaming, free voice roaming) with Eight S$8 plan (only 2GB roaming data but with voice roaming).

Not so sure if I want to try out Maxx S$10 plan or not. it has 3GB China roaming data but no roaming voice. Another possibility is to port Maxx to SIMBA to save S$10.

I believe I do not need to turn on Singtel ReadyRoam Asia (S$18 for 6GB China roaming). And it changes high fees for roaming voice call, so I will just disable Roaming Data for the Singtel line (can still receive free SMS).

History of China short trips previously.
1) StarHub Prepaid Roaming Data as backup
2) China mobile number plus VPN (that is the main reason I did not care about roaming previously). I used different VPN solutions including Wireguard VPN on the router to bypass the Great Firewall and it did work for short trips.
3) No need to turn on roaming on the main SingTel line.

Unfortunately my China Mobile number is longer not functioning. Now need to explore roaming.

Last week my partner & I were in Xi'an for 7 days - both on SIMBA's Senior Plan. I'd 0.21GB balance after the trip; partner's was 0.99GB balance - I didn't surf as much as when I'm in SG though.

I'd another SIMBA's PrePaid $12 with 18GB for China etc which I gave to a friend, on the same tour, to use - she used nearly 4GB.

Most times we were allocated 4G by CTC (I presume China Telecom). 99.9% was good, only on one occasion all SIMBA's subscribers on tour had no signals, even trying airplane mode on/off, change APN, on/off phone, manual choosing other Telcos (which was rejected) etc.

Finally it worked by switching in phone's settings (Preferred Network Type) to focus on 4G without option for 5G. It was only a small hiccup. Much later when I switched back to have Auto 5G the issue didn't arise again 🤷‍♀️

Signal coverage was very good, whether high up in the hills, deep down in the vallies, deep undergrounds, highways etc...

Added:
Didn't use hotel WiFi at all as Google, Whatsapp etc cannot be accessed.

If calling has problem, a quick fix is to use Simba Voice app.
Incoming is more of my concern, otherwise I'd have just grabbed any of my spare lines.

Same reason why I switched away from Singtel as my main line, after some bad experience for up to 2 years prior.

Anyway, thanks for the reminder about the app. 👌 Looks like I should reinstall it now, though it's like so yesteryear. :s13:

The Simba $12 plan can just pay for 1 month and then cancel? Intend to use it for China trip next month.

If you have a spare line, forwarding all your calls to this spare line will let you know who ever tried to reach you, and call back with your Simba Voice app if you prefer not to divulge this spare line no. 😀

Get prepaid version
Simba Prepaid Physical Sim may not be offered in authorised retailers or may be they don't care whether you are buying prepaid or prepaid version. I remembered I bought one specifying I wanted prepaid version, ended up it was the postpaid version. 😂

But may be it really doesn't matter, simply stop topping up either of them will terminate the line anyway. Prepaid or postpaid are simply a category required in the early days, now they make no difference in function.

...as long as the post paid will not debit from my credit card listed in my SIMBA's account.
