Ok I've been able to add credit card to my wife WeChat wallet, but any further (receive ang pow) needs verification by sending passport details. When it came to OTP it won't send to SG number .

Am I missing something?

Posting update. I reached Shanghai and updated passport with telco on first day (but no bank asked for it later on). Then I updated WeChatpay and Alipay. Thereafter over the next two days I updated passport details with the three banks. Everything went smoothly. However I am bummed because my verified account on Douyin and Meituan can’t accept a change in passport (Douyin says they now only accept Chinese nationals as account holders and Meituan advises me to cancel my account and re-register).

this means I cannot add bank cards to these two platforms (paying directly sometimes let you use vouchers etc as opposed to via Alipay and WeChat). Oh well!

Douyin you don't need to 实名认证 to spend money what. I'm living with that issue. Still can buy their stuffs . No issue leh

I registered douyin somewhere within this year. Meituan then long time ago

No need, only if you wish to buy from offshore stores OR if you wish to add your direct bank cards and bypass Alipay/ WeChatpay (which is in my case).

Like this ?

Payment side I can clear the 实名认证 but not on the profile side. Like buying from popmart in douyin requires 实名认证。that one always failed. 😂

Recent reports that WeChat Wallet linked to Singapore Bank Issued Credit Card failed to pay for Tencent TV VIP Membership renewal. Strange. It was working in 2024.

Not so sure if there is any workaround or not. Thanks.

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/iphone-chinese-entertainment-apps.5929935/page-17

anyone able to renew the subscription for Tencent TV?

I'm trying to use wechat to renew but when go to payment page, it show that international card not supported.

Not sure if Tencent had made some adjustment to their payment system. I remember last year i'm still able to use Wechat to pay.

I had the same issue with qq music.. Was able to pay last year but a last mth when i wanted to renew, payment failed with wechat pay.. Tried using android/ pc also cannot. Gave up and use apple music instead.

So, can we can use OCBC Pay to "send" money to people using WeChat?

I think you can pay Street Vendors using OCBC Pay, but probably not able to send red packets or transfer money to another WeChat Account.

Still it is a very useful feature. AliPay+ is not that useful in China. Union Pay is a bit more useful but WeChat Pay cashless payment is much more useful.
  • OCBC app users can scan Weixin Pay QR codes in China by Q1 2026, expanding existing Alipay+ and UnionPay capabilities, announced after a UnionPay partnership.
  • This feature benefits OCBC Singapore customers travelling to China, enabling payments directly from their bank accounts with competitive exchange rates.
  • OCBC's scan-and-pay feature sees rising usage; the app now supports 10 digital wallets, potentially benefiting Singapore’s foreign workforce.

I am currently in Xinjiang and seems like the WeChat Pay and Alipay is working on and off. Not sure why and I had to resort to paying in cash….

Strange to hear that.

Do you have a reliable network connection if you are using Roaming?

Yes, reliable.

my iPhone is on CMLink roaming while my Oppo is on Simba Roaming.

strangely, Simba TikTok is not available in the morning but available later in the afternoon, while CMLink TikTok totally cannot work.

My WeChat and Alipay on my iPhone.

I think I know why.

I thought I could just scan and pay for public transport in Xinjiang Kashi. I didn’t register to the local bus transport on both apps. It was usable for 1-2 times before it was stopped.

Alipay has this transport module 支付宝出行which you have to select and activate whenever you are in a new city. Also need to toggle between mrt and bus mode every time you switch transport type.
