When did you get your line?

What's the title of your email? Like "New Line Can't SMS"?

Don't expect immediate reply from them. If 2 days very lucky already.

That's MVNO for you. No hotline.

MVNO should hv phone hotline. Now they don't.

https://www.eight.com.sg/faq-renew-recharge-and-billing

  • How do I upgrade my plan?
    Upgrading is instant!
    • Log in to your eight account > Click on Recharge > Select your plan upgrade
    • Or visit any eight retailer
Once the upgrade is activated, your current plan will be immediately terminated and replaced with the new one.
Please note that plan upgrades are billed in full and we are unable to reverse transactions for terminated or stacked plans, nor can we reinstate previously held plans.
  • How do I downgrade my plan?
Downgrades take effect at the next renewal cycle.
    • Log in to your eight account > Biling > Your next plan on auto renew: change to a lower tiered plan
    • Or visit any eight retailer
Your current plan will continue until the end of its 30-day cycle, after which the downgraded plan will begin. All plans are non-reversible and refundable.
In case people don't believe the FAQ, I share my real life experience.

My current billing cycle is due on 5 Dec 2025. I am going overseas next week. On 4 Dec morning, I perform the 'recharge' function on the Eight App and choose 5G plan for 14.80. Immediately received confirmation. Switch off phone and restart. Immediately get 5G connection. Today on 5 Dec, I log into Eight App and perform Recharge again. This time round, I selected my previous plan of 8 Dollarts. Immediately confirmed and say that the new plan will be active on my next billing cycle on 4 Jan 2026. Meaning I am on 5G until 3 Jan 2026.

Maybe Eight should provide a hotline.

Didn't know recharge while existing plan active can select plan.
This can be a good idea if you know roughly how much you are expecting to use.

For me I usually recharge after existing plan expire to maximize the duration.
It also allows you to used up existing roaming quota before upgrading, esp when usage is not clear.

Also consider step upgrading :
Use up $8 quota, upgrade to $11.80.
Then when $11.80 use up, upgrade to $14.80
Depending on your expected usage and destination (favours APAC), that could make more sense than directly upgrading to $14.80 or $18 plan.

Lastly since the 5G plans were introduced, some on 4G plans reported no longer getting 5G while roaming.
I don't think we have enough data points to be sure, but that is something to look out for.

I needed international roaming and hence it did not make sense to stay on $8 quota and then upgrade to $11.80 when 2gb roaming to used up. So it was a straight $11.80 or $14.80, for me. Decided on 14.80 so that I can try out 5G. One stone two birds.

I don't follow your logic.

Yes, on the S$8 plan you get 2GB of international roaming data (in the majority of free roaming countries). Maybe that's not enough, but it'll at least get you started when you start roaming. You also get 30 days of service. If you activate a more expensive plan before using up your 2GB data allotment or much before the 30 days expires, whichever comes first, you've unnecessarily "burned" some of the value of the plan you've already paid for. The new plan also lasts 30 days, so if you activate it sooner than you need to you're unnecessarily pulling forward the expiration date of that plan.

"What's the rush?" basically.

Quite straightforward. I explain using $8 vs $11..80. I deemd the extra $3 (14.80 - 11.80) as premium I paid to experience 5G in Spore.

I knew I would use more than 2gb of data (number of days overseas). So if I pay $8, I am effectively paying $4/gb of roaming data. With $11.80 for 8gb of data. I am effectively paying $1.475/gb of roaming data. Why pay $8+$11.80 when I know I definitely will exceed. Might as well pay 11.80 upfront.

I am not losing anything as I upgraded my plan on the last day of my billing cycle. Your next question is what happens if I exceed 8gb? I have another backup line which I can toggle between the two. Already paid for. If still exceed, then no choice but to pay more.

The other point is whether I used more than 2gb but less than 4gb. Aiya. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. I rather choose a strategy and execute. Don't want to be in a situation where you want to **** and don't have toilet paper on hand.

The predicate is that you've already paid S$8, and you have some X number of days before your S$8 cycle reaches 30 days. You've already "banked" 2GB of roaming data and whatever number of days are left in your cycle.

So why pay extra now for additional roaming data? There's no point unless you're very close to the end of the 30 day cycle. If you're not, use the 2GB allotment up first. THEN buy the next plan (S$11.80 or S$14.80, as you prefer). Then you get more data and more time until the S$11.80 or S$14.80 expires.

When you're roaming you can generally use 5G, 4G, or even 3G — whatever the roaming partner supports. Access to 5G isn't an issue.
I am not losing anything as I upgraded my plan on the last day of my billing cycle.
OK, but that's what I wrote.

You're not required to buy roaming data specifically from Eight. You could buy a local SIM/eSIM, head to esimdb.com and search for other offers, etc., etc. You could also just use less roaming data. (What a concept!)

I just remembered something, I subscribed to the $18 few months back (around early June) as I needed higher roaming data allowance. This was before I ported out.
When I came back, I noticed the speed was faster than $8. After that I reverted to $8 plan, and it was a slow poke. Maybe it's a placebo effect, but my shopee games loaded faster :s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13::s13:

It is not a placebo effect.

Eight 4G is now often pretty slow. On the other hand, Eight 5G should be much faster.

I have compared Eight 4G (S$8) and StarHub Prepaid S 5G (S$10 usual price, S$3 for some users migrated from Happy Prepaid Card). The speed difference is very significant.

Recent test results on Thursday morning.

CUniq 4G is also as slow as Eight 4G as both use StarHub 4G Network.

StarHub Prepaid S 5G is much much faster in this case.

That being said, Eight 4G is still usable for my daily activities, especially since I do not take MRT lines during peak hours. It performs okay at my workplace and on the bus between Boon Lay Bus Interchange and the workplace.

Now (around 8:20 am) maybe consider as peak hours in the morning but I am at home sitting in the living room.

CUniq 4G and Eight 4G are the same in terms of slowness as both use StarHub 4G network.

Edit to add: StarHub Prepaid S plan 5G SA speed is much faster.
