I will try again later.

I think it may have to do with my account. I was using the WeChat Pay wallet with quite some transactions before 2020.

Still as per the official WeChat document, the account linked to foreign bank card are supposedly not able to use WeChat Pay transfer function and red packet function. So technically it is a loophole even if the two functions work for some users here.

I cannot find such clause in AliPay document though. So it may not count as a loophole in the end.

It seems okay after I carried out Real Name Authentication again today by uploading the latest Passport photo and with Facial Scan.

Looks like previous verification a few years ago was not successful (only the passport photo uploaded, no facial scan).

Tested with sending and receiving RMB red packets from the existing balance of RMB 213.42 which I had not touched since May 2020 until now.

I read n see that youTrip platform will charge 3% fees for more than 200rmb.
Say sgd exchange rate is 1:5

Mean every $40 spend will pay 3 percen more then pay $4000 is $120 fees is it

Think about that. you buy Goods in SG, if you pay credit card, the shop actually needs to absorb the Credit card fees charged by card supplier compared with cash payments. So the price Tag of the goods is marked higher to compensate that.
In China. Usually WeChat and Alipay payment all linked to bank account, so they are considered cash payment. The goods price is tagged with cash payment. When use Credit card to pay, 3% extra will be imposed. For below 200 RMB fee waver, the cost is absorbed by WeChat and Alipay.

When I was in Xi'an....some vendors have a consolidated QR Code with Union Pay, AliPay, WeChatPay etc

last year i encountered unified qr codes in 3 different provinces, only the one on a public bus in a small town worked when i scan to pay. the other 2 (pasar malam and small eatery) got error, the vendors had to bring out their old individual codes for me to scan to pay, lol. i do not know if now they have fixed the problem for international tourists or not.

I guess that’s where the benefit of using Changi Pay helps circumvent the 3% surcharge.
Just bit troublesome to top up Changi’s Liquid wallet (using our multi currency cards).
Becomes a 2 step process.

I got Changi pay as backup, in the end didn't use and had a hard time using the balance in there.

Alipay and WeChat have more features in addition to payment. Useful to have.
