I got a few TP-Link DECO and now I seem to be stuck when I want to go 10Gbe.

I may switch because i realised Deco uses app rather than web.
The previous Singtel router maybe 10 years. TP-Link will still be around ?
Maybe i use existing Deco for Mesh, move to something more non app.
This would be the EB810v right ?

1) For TP-Link, it depends on the router you select.

TP-Link will support the old Deco M4 until 28 Feb 2028. It was released in early 2019. And it is also supported by OpenWRT so that you can continue using it after Feb 2028 without worrying about no security updates. I have four units myself bought in 2019/2020.

Some very old models like Archer C20 is still supported as well (released in March 2015). It will be supported until 1st March 2028.

2) Your old Singtel routers may be long out of support long ago and they can pose security risks to your home network.

3) If you stick with StarHub and want to change to EasyMesh, then EB810v and HB710 are not bad.

The EB810v router will not get the firmware update from SH when you are Singtel user so better do not buy.

Personally I will recommend TP-Link Archer BE805 or Asus RT-BE92U (if you like Asus). Both are below S$300 BNIB in Carousell, dumped by M1 users. Second hand units will be even cheaper.

IMHO.
If from M1, does what @Henry Ng said applies ? I just concern there is some ISP specific stuffs. Like I configure VLAN on my Singtel, the drop down list list Singtel and M1 as my router is not ISP specific.

Yes as non isp router will get the update from the manufacturer and not isp so it can be used on most isp. isp router is cheap because it has no update from manufacturer. Do not forget that we work so hard by writing to IMDA and TP-Link and Starhub to get the firmware updated. Later i will feedback to Starhub to arrange with TP-Link to have the firmware updated again in 2026.

Thanks. I figure that is why I see retail boxes of TP-LINK router (old) they put "Compatible with all broadband and IPTV plans". This leads me to maybe think of running a MESH as an add-on - if that makes sense.

In Nov, Starhub actually informed me when was my firmware update so i just replied to inform them that i got the update and asked them to continue to work with the relevant teams on the next update in 2026. I hope this will help users to get another update in 2026.

Ah... that clarifies it. I felt kind of spooked after swapping 2 routers ( one BNIB) to replace my old Singtel and still can't get it to work ! Finally the BNIB RT-AC86U which i kept since 2019 was alright.

I would say TP-LINK also got firmware issues locally.
The auto update do not have any update but actually, there is but one has to go to some other than SG TP-LINK website to download and do manually.

Then do not buy it in future. I also suggested SH to implement secured DNS with anti virus and dangerous site filtering. I intend to buy my own ASUS router in future after i moved to my new place.

IMHO.
My place just newly reno. Centralised everything in a nice cabinet in the living area using Cat 6A.
I am happy with the Asus despite being old model. No hiccups in the install and many features.

Asus RT-BE92U is just one 10G Wan/Lan and 2.5G Wan/Lan and three 2.5G Lan so it can not support a 10 Gbps LAN to a computer when we are on 10 Gbps internet. Better to have one 10G Wan and one 10G Lan then can buy or else it is just a 2.5G internet connection.

Seems like they are planning another firmware update in “a few weeks”

I raised a few problems around MLO and dropping 5G connection especially with consumer devices like smart TV and soundbar, both of which they said will address. Hopefully.

do channel your concerns directly to TP-LINK so that they can address and fix them.
