When you get your Eight sim card, have you tested on your phone to check if there are signal in Singapore first?
When I first get my sim card, my mistake was not inserting into my 2nd sim slot to test for signal. :(

I also receive many email after the shop activate my sim when I collected from them. The shop use the activation code for activating the sim.

All my email to them take 2- 3 days for them to reply, best part the ticket will auto close once they reply to you even it is not resolved yet. That why I keep going down to their service centre. Unfortunately their service centre also cannot do anything if it is complex and customer service just push to the backend to solve it.

Actually once port over successfully, everything will be smooth. I also have existing line with them.
Yes.. there is a signal and I can actually get internet connection in SG. But the card does not allow me to make outbound call.

I have an existing line and everything is nice nice..But this other line that i am trying to port over and it is such a headache.. I think i will just abandon the porting in and cancel the SIM card.

EIGHT is like SHXT in JB! Cannot even watch youtube shots...keeps reloading and takes 20 - 30 secs for 1 youtube shots to reload!!
Reports and personal experiences about roaming in Malaysia—particularly in Johor Bahru—are nothing new. For at least half a year or more, social media has been filled with similar complaints and discussions. Even when you manually switch between carriers, it often comes down to luck whether the connection works smoothly, unlike roaming in other countries. It remains difficult to tell whether the problem lies with Malaysia’s networks or with StarHub.

Usually the issue is not with Starhub but the roaming partner networks.

Please take note that roaming users have lower priority compared to local users. So you may not have good connection if the place is congested (worse is weak signal plus congestions).

In this paticular case, looks like it is a well-known problem due to congestion.

Southkey mid valley mall....

The mall is too crowded with ppl and it is known to have blind spots even u have full bars of signal.

only thing can do is to move away of the spots and data should come back again.

This mall is well known for slow connection when there's huge crowds, that's why they have free WiFi as well.

From my experience, it’s actually other mall located even further than Mid Valley. The mall itself feels just like any other typical shopping center. The issue isn’t really congestion (since its not signal coverage issue)—it’s more about how they prioritize control to the point that roaming services stop working. Based on my observation, this has already become quite a new norm.

Coverage issue -- low signal or no signal.

Congestion issue is not the same as coverage, rather it is due to capacity problem. You may have good signal and then you may still have no connection or very bad connection.

Once you have capacity problem, then the priority kicks in and roaming partners will suffer first before local users.

When i was in mid-valley mall basement i use the free wifi from the mall as the connection is not great at alot spots... regardless of which roaming partners

it is a solution also. the wifi in the mall is decent to be fair for normal usage.

For those who are worried about public WiFi security, you can always use a VPN.

One free VPN solution which is suitbale for this use case is Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 app (Warp VPN).

This is why I don’t worry much about coverage or congestion (coverage is showing ok) —I care more about real-world experience.
Not all roaming partners can have issues at once—it seems more controlled.

Offtopic from eight.
Warp is not a VPN solution

It creates a VPN tunnel so as to force all traffic through it to resolve using 1.1.1.1

It is the same as other solutions like rethinkdns and blokada

No, that is the DNS part. Warp has two operating modes, DNS Only mode and VPN mode.

They also have the paid Warp+ VPN service.

finally the port in CS replied after a week to say that I signed up wrongly as data SIM card? How come I have done that if I have inputted the port in number? They also didn’t offer solutions to resolve the issue. So I told them to cancel the card. I don’t think I have the patience to go through the pain again of porting in. I will take $18 loss as a lesson learnt.

Wow, almost impossible for that to happen since the UI is totally different upon the cloudflare bot check.
And the id selector is different

18 SGD voice plan - choose-number?id=4
18 SGD data only - choose-number?id=6

Thats my point and I am very sure that I have inputted the number to port over and I had checked twice to make sure I keyed in the right number. I managed to port the number now to SIMBA and it was done within the next day after I collected the SIM Card. Basically I am using this card for overseas data roaming.. so either Eight or SIMBA will work for me.

Guys, I seldom log into Eight mobile account. Only log in once every few months to top up.

Now log in and realized I need to top up month by month for my mom?

Last time I rem we just top up a specific amount of our choice, say $20 or $40 as wallet balance then we can use the topped up amount freely and buy plans.

But now I cannot find the option to top up the balance. Instead I’m just buying plan by each month. So strange?

My wallet is $0. No option to top up wallet. Can only buy plan. So each time I top up once, I will receive SMS that says “your plan is good to go until X Feb”, “your plan is good to go until X March, X April, X May”….

Last year and all along was like I top up say $20, then I set auto renewal, so they will auto deduct from the $20, and renew my mom’s $5 plan each month. Now change pattern liao or I did sth wrong? Same thing for my $8 account too. Whyyy ah

Try use shopee to top-up, it will go into wallet. Did that yesterday for my mom's number.
