Guys, I seldom log into Eight mobile account. Only log in once every few months to top up.

Now log in and realized I need to top up month by month for my mom?

Last time I rem we just top up a specific amount of our choice, say $20 or $40 as wallet balance then we can use the topped up amount freely and buy plans.

But now I cannot find the option to top up the balance. Instead I’m just buying plan by each month. So strange?

My wallet is $0. No option to top up wallet. Can only buy plan. So each time I top up once, I will receive SMS that says “your plan is good to go until X Feb”, “your plan is good to go until X March, X April, X May”….

Last year and all along was like I top up say $20, then I set auto renewal, so they will auto deduct from the $20, and renew my mom’s $5 plan each month. Now change pattern liao or I did sth wrong? Same thing for my $8 account too. Whyyy ah

1) I can still see the top up option within the eight mobile app. You can then top up using credit card.

eight mobile app -- top left menu -- Plans, add ons Top-up -- scroll bar (30-day plans, 1-year plan, Add-ons, Main Balance ) -- select "Main Balance". Then you can top up whatever amount you like with minimum value of S$1.

I used this method for the previous S$88 one to one top-up offer.

2) You can also top up using Shopee. Some of the stores may accept Shopee platform voucher. I used this method for previous S$8 top up and only needed to pay S$6.8.

3) Physical shop top-up is also possible.

I know why already!!! So silly

I am reading your message and go to the top up menu. I can see 30 days, 1 year, Add ons, but cannot find the Main Balance menu. Then you said “scroll bar”. So I went to scroll to the right and indeed can see the Main Balance menu. :spin::spin::spin::o
Last time like no need to scroll de leh!

On my mom’s phone, the user interface of the website is worse. Me using iPhone 16 Pro Max the screen bigger can see more but not the Main Balance menu. :s22::o Lol

I have never buy top up from Shopee before but can try for my $8 plan. I thought buy more credits it is cheaper, but a lot I see is selling additional $0.60 or $0.90 more. Like $8 credit they sell at $8.90 instead. $28 credit they sell $29.60. Then isn’t it better to top up directly from Eight instead? Unless got a big Shopee voucher to use

For Eight topup at shopee or Lazada. In the past it is mostly standard eg $8 or sometimes small discounts. Is there a change nowadays?
For Simba Starhub Singtel M1 , always more expensive topup over Shopee Lazada

Somehow after the S$88 one to one top-up, quite some shops increased the price for eight top-up, including "Lady Boss Collectives". There are still shops which offer eight top-up without extra markup though.

The price from Lady Boss Collectives for eight S$8 top-up used to be at S$8 but now it is a bit higher at S$8.30.

But then it accepts Shopee VIP voucher of 25% OFF up to S$4, so if you have Shopee VIP, you will only need to pay S$12.6 if I top up S$16.

For SingTel hi! Prepaid Top-up, Singtel official prepaid shop does not have mark-up. But it does not yet offer SingTel hi! 4G PostPaid plan (SingTel heya replacement) top-up yet, even though the new hi! 4G postpaid plans are also managed by the SingTel Prepaid Team

For me. If more expensive at Shopee Lazada then I prefer directly topup through the MNO or MVNO app website

Indeed.

Even for the one for one top-up promotion, maybe it still a good idea not to top up too much, say up to S$176 for S$8 4G plan, or S$352 for S$14.8 5G plan.

S$176 x 2 / S$8 per month= 44 months
S$352 x 2 / S$14.8 per month= 47.57 months

I only top up S$88 for the eight one for one top-up offer myself.

This is even more so for SIMBA one for one top-up offer. For eight you still have the option to upgrade to 5G to enjoy potentially better coverage (StarHub 5G network with 4G network fallback). For SIMBA you are kind of stuck.

I cancelled SIMBA after the first month.

I actually regret not to top up more. 🤪

Judging from the pattern of eight and SIMBA, both will have one for one top-up offer later.

So you can always top up more next time.

icic. good to hear that. else i actually feel regretted to be frank. :p

i got 1 friend top up only 1 x $88, the other after seeing me top up more, he top up 2 x $88, then i top up 3 x $88. :p

dang i didnt know i cant use my balance ($88+free $88) for their one year plan....after i change to the 1yr plan then i figured it didnt deduct my balance but charged my card :S

Anyway, when in overseas like Japan, can we still receive/make calls? or just purely data? The 488mins IDD covers the calls part?

Free voice roaming. So you can still receive and make phone calls.

The number of IDD minutes depend on your eight plan.

288 minutes for S$8 plan.
388 minutes for S$11.8 plan and S$14.8 plan.
488 minutes for S$18 plan.

Free voice roaming is one of the major advantages of using eight or SIMBA for roaming. It is also the major advantage of using StarHub 5G Unlimited+ plans but those plans are much more expensive.

High roaming voice charges are one of the main disadvantages of using SingTel and Singtel MVNOs not belong to Singtel (Zym, Zero1, VIVIFI and CMLink) for roaming.

eight customer support response to my inquiry:

Thank you for your inquiries. Do understand that our plans do include 288mins roaming calls back to Singapore as well and at the destination you roam at!

Before I can proceed answering your questions, first you need to understand the difference between VoLTE vs IDD.

VoLTE stands for Voice over Long-Term Evolution or Voice over LTE. VoLTE offers the possibility to voice call via the LTE/4G* mobile data network. (DATA)

International direct dialling (IDD) calls let you connect to overseas numbers directly. Enjoy all-inclusive IDD Talktime with your overseas friends with our IDD talktime. (IDD)

IDD Supported Destinations:
Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, China, Colombia, Guam, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Romania, Taiwan, Thailand, USA – Alaska, USA – Hawaii, USA – United States Of America, USA – Virgin Islands, Vietnam

Just remember this, VoLTE is using your data so it wont consume your IDD.

Calls made/received when overseas (roaming):
  1. Calling local (roaming country) numbers: 288mins roaming (VoLTE) or Purchase Add-Ons
  2. Calling overseas (non-roaming country) numbers: 288mins IDD supported or Purchase Add-Ons
  3. Calling Singapore numbers (Local to Local): free 288mins Local Talktime
  4. Receiving calls from local (roaming country) numbers: Incoming Calls free
  5. Receiving calls from overseas (non-roaming country) numbers: Incoming Calls free
  6. Receiving calls from Singapore numbers: Incoming Calls free

If any of your 288 mins are depleted, you can purchase add-ons accordingly: https://www.eight.com.sg/plan-add-ons

If I already click recharge to lower plan for next billing cycle. Is there any way to cancel and change back to higher tier plan for next billing cycle? By right, should select the plan in the auto-recharge section. But I mistakenly press recharge..

Or die die must wait until the next cycle then recharge to higher plan (activate immediately) when my roaming allocation finish.

https://www.eight.com.sg/faq-renew-recharge-and-billing states that it is effect on next billing cycle.. best to contact CSO direct if there's a mistake done on your end

"Downgrades take effect at the next renewal cycle."
