So if frequent to JB, one must subscribed to 8 5G plan instead to get better roaming data? ( sorry ah, i didn't really follow this thread)
Connectivity wise
If you are on 4G then likely only 4G is given to you at the countries you roam in.
If you want 5G then likely have to get 5G plan.

Can't say for sure as i tend to roam with other esim services when overseas and only depend on local telco for backup roaming data.

Yes i understand on subscribed to 4G local will get 4G roaming data.

From reading certain post on this thread, it is said that eight 4G is throttled when roaming in JB. However 8 5G network wont have this issue when roaming in JB.

That is why i apologies in my earlier post. 😀

i would like to share my experience on Eight Mobile,

- i had long delay while trying to surf net on browser @ takashimaya basement, i tried to turn on VPN network on my mobile and all these browser delay was gone.
- i had long delay while trying to place order using alipay/wechat while in China cos these app tried to download mini programs... eg food menu etc.... i figure out that the phone is connecting to SG internet gateway for all websurfing...

Since then i start using other DNS servers on my phone for mobile networks and had issue-free usage.

thanks for sharing. You are right, sometimes our default ISP/mobile operator DNS quite slow, sometimes i'll use own Pi-Hole Tailscale, or cloudflare.

I have $50 in my main balance. To select the plan that I want for the next month, do I just so the following (I am on Double Eight plan now).

1.Go to Plan / Addons / Top up.
2. Under 30-day plans choose Fortune Eight plan
3. It will automatically change on the renewal date?

(Next month if I want to change to Double Eight plan)
I just do the same again before its due for renewal?

payment can fail because SG bank does not authorise fast enough due to roaming latency. annoying.
solved it the traditional way, got a China number, fast because it uses local data. Also, added benefits of local authentication and dealing with banks and bureaucracy

5G is really so much better than 4G when roaming? Been using Singtel, Starhub and lately M1 in jiuhu, don’t feel any difference between 4G and 5G 😁
they say 5G eat up more batt vs 4G is it true?

I recalled I was in europe and had to switch to 4G to save batt and also could not last a full day .

Or maybe it could be due to taking many photos and videos.

I am in JB now 5G plan.

S23U auto hook onto Celcom. IP15P took damn long to connect, need to airplane mode, select data manually etc before finally get connected also to Celcom

S23 managed to get 5G but IP 4G outdoors. Inside City square reception was spotty for both. Outdoor near custom to taman melodies data ok can grab, maps etc.

This morning 8am, I travelled from the east, on Downtown line (very packed), then Circle, then NorthSouth, then Woodlands Checkpoint, JB Sentral, Kulai. Listerning to SG radio all the way very smooth no interruptions. Did not go to any malls. Took bus, used T&G and Grab, surfed HWZ forums all OK.

When in JB customs area, phone auto connect to CelcomDigi 5G all the way, until I return leg in Woodlands customs area alight from bus still connected! LOL, CelcomDigi 5G signal must be very strong.

I am on $4 4G plan, no complaints. LOL.

For the 5g, 18 dollar plan, it says 36gb roaming for apac + japan and 18gb international roaming so if you subscribe and go to Japan, what is your quota for data roaming ? 36gb or 36+18=54 gb ?

18GB international roaming includes Japan, however is only applicable for $18 plan.
So your total available data raoming for Japan will be 36+18 = 54GB.
