Just bought a Aego M 2.1 after my klipsch promedia 2.0 got volume control problem which cannot be repaired by Sim Lim shop #03-16.

Lucky for me, I made the right choice after reading reviews of this speaker. Was considering klipsch GMX A 2.1 but damn afraid it would fail me again. Waited for a while and decide to check out the Aego m.

This speaker is out of this world, really worth the money spent. The sound is comparable or even better than my amplifier and bose AM5. For $230 + GST, I think there is really no other speakers able to match its sound and power.

For all people out there, you can don't believe what I say but I hope you give yourself a chance to test out this speaker for yourself and decide for yourself to get it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

After contacting Aego M Returns and Service Department personnel, I am told that the current Aego M price is cheaper than the initial SGD$370 because they used different material alloy for their satellite speaker.

The $369 speakers are made of zinc alloy and will weigh much heavier while the current sets , which are selling for $230 (exclude GST), are actually using the lighter aluminum alloy. The change to aluminum alloy is partly because the price of zinc alloy went up last November, hence, changing to aluminum actually decrease the price of raw materials. But I was assured that "There is no difference acoustically between the 2 satellites."

This is an interesting find...it'll be even more interesting to weigh the old & new Satellites. ;)

Yea a great speaker... Congrats!
However, if u compare the bass to MX5021 ... then ur aego M is like super pale in comparison already.... unless u only listen to classical stuff? :p

Klipsch has a very heavy bass, and also known to have the "Klipsch" problems that has some reliability issues. Glad Aego M works well for you. :)

If you pair it with a good sound card, you will hear a phenomenal difference.

Thanks to recommendations and advice (especially from erwinrommel, thanks bro!), i went down this morning after calling city electronics to check for stock.. and got my AEGO M black!!!

cost $246.10 (230 + 7% GST).. hehe..

hehe.. spent the afternoon removing my old speakers (FX6021.. good while they lasted although they cant match Aego M's clarity) and then setting up my Aego Ms.. :)

right now playing music to burn in the speakers :p
hehe..

and all i wanna add is i did not regret it!

even at this stage i can hear things i wasnt able to pick up using the FX6021s...

my girl friend (who isnt really an audio person) also was stunned by the clarity and sound... she ended up approving my purchase!
:p

all in all, just really amazed at what these small sats can do..

as for bass, even though i had worries that it might be too soft.. i'm quite surprised... at the level 1 setting i felt it was just nice already..
but to add some oomph (since i also watch movies on my pc), i upped the bass to level 2 and toned it down a bit using sound card settings..

seems great so far! spaced them about 1.5 to 2 m apart and paired with a so-so Creative X-fi Xtremegamer.. :)

Glad it makes a difference to your audio enjoyment. BTW, you know the NPNT rule right? :s13:

Actually you will hear quite a big difference once your speakers break in. Somehow the sound will not be so sharp and shrill and will be more gentle on your ears. Plenty of bros here are pairing them with either Auznetech Prelude or external DAC! :D

yeah yu're definitely right on that...they're alot less sharp and piercing compared to when i first got them. i remember giving some quite negative impressions here when i first got them. they've improved alot after breaking in..

^5! Glad to know my ears do not prove me wrong.

Another issue (not Aego M fault) is when playing poor quality audio files (low rip format, etc).

During music playback, the high notes will have a very unpleasant "shrill" ending, such that I was initially wondering whether my Aego M is starting to fail me. Looks like Aego M is very particular about the quality of the audio file. Another reason to buy bigger hard disk for maximum rip format + buy a high-end sound card. :D

There's no dragon and tiger in the speakers. :s13:

Aego M is mostly known for sharpness and clarity. The costly speakers sold in Adelphi got dragons, tigers and even dinosaurs. :s22:

I was like you using Aego-M with Prelude but sold my Prelude, got a USB DAC cum Headphone Amp (GoVibes Petite) & re-ripped my CD to Lossless!

Songs / Music sound sooo much better now.

Games well but not enough punch (Prelude more punch in Gaming)!

Last I read, MP3 quality tops out at around 192kbps..

heading towards lossless (FLAC etc) would do Aego M justice ;)

Erm, nope, most people aren't trained to recognise lossy encoding artifacts, and will be ok with Lame 3.98 encoder, -V 5 for ~128 kbps or -V 4 for ~165 kbps. Most people will be unable to distinguish -V 2 (~190 kbps) from the original CD. Encoding at 320 kbps is pointless, but some people want that 'warm, fuzzy feeling' of seeing big numbers.

If mp3s didn't sound like crap before, and now seem to, there are 2 reasons:

1) mp3s were downloaded (ahem), or were encoded with inferior encoders, or were encoded with idiotic settings (happens a lot with LAME; just stick to the -V nomenclature).

2) Placebo. However, there are impromptu blind tests that can be performed to eliminate placebo.

Also, Aego-M is still in the realm of PC Audio. IEMs and headphones at its price easily thrash it.

The prelude's op-amp is LM4562 if I'm not wrong, which "sounds faster" than the OPA2604 of the Go-Vibe that is found on most of the entry-level DACs.

Get a better DAC and swap the op-amp to LM4562.

Sorry ah, but can I ask if AD8620BR op-amp is a better choice over the LM4562?

i beg to differ. lol they're not good enough to justify lossless... basically flac and mp3 v0 would sound the same.
