can u guys give me a hint on how to partition the disk..
I am thinking of the partitioning the disk into

C: 50GB - windows Vista -- Is this enuff or too much
D: Recovery Disk - 11GB === Default set up by HP...
E: 100GB - audio/media/video files/Data files...
F: 100GB - Installation programs --- probably top up more here....

G:30GB - Linux Distro including the swap partition.

Can someone comment on this partitioning format.. and advise me...
why separate Installation programs and OS?

I just found that a couple of websites advocate this strategy.
http://partition.radified.com/

The current qn I have, is that Vista's format tool DOESNT allow me to shrink my C: drive to 50Gb, it seems that I can only shrink by half at most (150GB etc)....
What the Hell.... Can someone comment on a walkaround....
Thanks again

if you bother looking thru, there's TONs of "walkaround" in this thread already...

either methods...

1. Use Partition Magic, Acronis.. etc etc.

2. recovery your entire system and do the shrink again - you should be able to go even lower than 150GB.

Did you guys notice this laptop's HDD compartment heats up very fast? i monitor it with HWmonitor, and it actually hit max of 62 degrees in quite a short time as compared to some other brands.

Quick question: Does this notebook (with student offer) have an LED backlit screen? Or just CCFL?

But anyways just leave it.. Probably a big update.

EDIT: And why are people saying there's no fan? o_o

i have no idea as well... i heard the fan from my fren's vent.

as long as the heatsink is in place... it shouldnt be too much of a problem. - i think. hahahas.

No need to downgrade lah.. just let the vista there in a 40Gb partition or something.... and create another partition and put the windows 2K, XP there and dual boot....

And another thing, since this lappie getting quite hot, what laptop coolers have u bought and where.... I saw a couple at SLS,
they have those large 1 fan, small 2 fans or 3 fans... and those elevated ones...

Any brands and models , you folks have used in the past and is really effective in keeping the temperature down....

yeah. open it up and you will notice it has no fan.

Theres one fan, the CPU fan that it sucking hot air out of the system. But it is still not enough to take away the extreme heat from the HDD. Temperature of HDD really shots up quite fast on this laptop. Still havent tried gaming on this laptop yet, but IMO this laptop may not be suitable for gaming purpose. Reason....it will heat up even more and the system may actually restart of shuts down due to high temperatures.
