nook now at PORTLAND, OR, US 03/17/2010 7:10 P.M. ARRIVAL SCAN.
I believe pending dispatch to vpost address by today (tonite in US).

Also pre-ordered the Chesterton Quote Cover(Coffee). Too bad, the nook gotta go nude for a couple of days.

Contemplating whether to get B&N screen-protector (bad reviews by users) or those Invisible Shield full-body protection.

bro khaizz, you bought yr nook from B&N rite? Were you charged sales tax?

Hey,

Yeah I had to pay the sales tax that you mentioned. But I'd rather pay the sales tax and get my item fast & safe without the hassle of confirming your order that vPost has.

My item arrived in excellent condition, the CS people were very helpful and they even delivered my nook on a Sunday!! :D

So I was happy, haha.. and the sales tax is because BN has store presence in Ohio, I presume, so we have to pay sales tax..lol

Thanks for confirming. Yep, I spoke to Borderlinx via their chatline and they confirmed that Sales Tax is merchant-dependent. Some may charge & some may not.
Agree wif u that paying a little more for professionalism, good service and have peace of mind is indeed a worthwhile investment.

Hope I dont have to resort to legal action again with u-know-who.

Dumb question #2:

Do I need to install ADE on my PC? I have a couple of PDF ebooks and Word-converted docs in PDF format which I would like to read/refer on the Nook.
I read somewhere that pdf ebooks may not work well with Nook and require ADE to convert to epub format.

Can any1 explain in English's english how ADE works? :s11:

I do not know how to explain how ade works but I can tell u that certain PDF that u purchase from online stores like ebooks.com requires u to have ade in yr pc and link it up with nook. This happens to one of my ebook that I purchased which requires me to install ade and linked with whatever ebook reader I have sort of like authorization so that I can transfer the ebook to my nook.

Most likely no. But it wouldn't hurt to install ADE would it? If you install ADE, you can transfer NLB-borrowed eBooks in ePub/PDF format which are DRM-ed to be sideloaded into your nook.

I have it installed in my Mac but I don't use it unless I need to sideload a DRM-ed eBook :)

Hi all,
Just wanna share that I received my Nook today from Vpost. :) I placed my order with B&N last mon so it took 9 working days in total. I had to peel thru layers and layers of wrapping to get to my Nook...haha.... Paid US$259 for the device and SGD22 for the shipping charge to Vpost :) Now as Im typing my Nook is doing some auto software updates:)

I did a very silly thing just now... I tried to register my Nook without connecting WIFI. For a min I was puzzled why cannot register ah?? Stupid me...

Installed both Calibre and ADE last nite and played with it. Was impressed with Calibre.

Dumber Question for the nook gurus here (you know who you are....):

I downloaded my purchased ebooks from B&N My eBook Library to my local drive.
However, I was unable to add the saved ebooks from my C-drive to Calibre cos they are DRM protected.
When I open ADE and checked the Purchased Items folder, the ebooks were not shown. I tried to add the ebooks from my local drive but ADE could not find the saved ebooks in my C-drive.
Any idea why? Do I need the nook to be connected?

Erm.. then I have a qns that cannot be even more dumb... What is Calibre & ADE? What is it used for? Convert PDF files so it can be read on NOOK? I trf a PDF file to my Nook yest and was able to view it on my Nook without any conversion.

I read previously that someone bought the IRiverstory cover for Nook? Is it good? Is it Loretta? I think my Nook have to go nude for weeks if I wait for the Barnes & Noble's cover....

ADE - Adobe Digital Editions. This is useful for DRM-ed ePub books that you bought from external stores and need to be authenticated. If you want, you can borrow from NLB's Overdrive Digital Library and then transfer them to ADE to be authenticated and then to your nook. It's pretty straightforward.

Calibre is an eBook management software, and you can convert your eBooks to other formats, not just PDF. Pretty useful, I would say :)
