I dont think mobile broadband sucks leh.
I got one 1mbps one. Very good imo. Dont really care the ping as long as it is below or around 200ms for mobile bb.
Speed is important and most of the time i hit 1mbps.

Used at different areas in the car. Stable imo!

As long as the user understands the limitation of the HSPA technology and knows what to expect from it, it is a good technology.

If the user expects it to be the same as fixed line broadband (which many do) they will find it sucks.

Today's Digital Life got an article about the how the telco do not expect the hugh bandwidth demand due to the surge of the smart phones.

Maybe can go read about it.

Hmmm the thing is if people sign up for smart phones with data plan..then they dont really have to go sign another mobile broadband already plus data plan offers 7.2mbps + andriod supports wifi tethering.
Thats even better than mifi + 7.2mbps!
12GB limit that's the bad thing but i dont think most of exceed that limit?

i use in dhobyghaut area near the big cathy there is about 4-5 mbps for Starhub 7.2


HOWEVER the near braddell mrt at peak hour can crawl to less than 1mbps.. which is totally unacceptable as we suppose to get at least 3mbps no matter what for a 7.2mbps

Think the service provider here should take a look at how Hong Kong provider advertise their plans.

For 7.2Mbps plan, they will say speed from 2M to 7M for example.

"from 6kbps to less than limit of your plan"

OK, let me rephrase it.

It shoud be from "Anything from 0kbps/mbps to 4Mbps, anything above that to 7Mbps if you are lucky".

Come on, it's not that bad. I would say 75% of the time in any given month, I was able to hit 75% of my 1Mbps M1... for a mobile technology at this point in time, I've no complaints.
But that doesn't mean M1 can't do better still... I'm hopeful they will continue improving then I can upgrade to 2Mbps. Maybe even try out their V-plans...

Thinking of getting mobile broadband and i realised only M1 and Starhub have unlimited usages plan, it seems it is impossible to reach 7.2mbps with consistent bandwidth i am using it for work what plan will you guys recommend.

1. Thinking of 4mbps and below since its impossible to reach good speed for 7.2mbps.
2. Which provider actually will be better. Usage mostly in the East area?
3. Already on singnet broadband at home so will not be using it for home use, mainly for work.

Recommended speed would be 2Mbps actually. It's more achievable and it's enough for normal usage.

As for which one is better, it would depend on areas. Either one could be better at different places. Maybe you can borrow from friends to try out at places you frequent or buy the prepaid package to try. Personally using M1 at Katong area and it's not bad.

Or if you using M1 for mobile, then you may consider getting M1 as it's bundled under multi-line saver discount tier service..

Any known offers for singnet or starhub?.. unlikely to go for M1 becos of bad customer experience with them and their billing system. they overcharge me wrongly for a couple of months till i complain and they found its their system problem.

Yes, though it might take some time for you to get used to the slightly higher latency.
Every action and reaction by the remote server/PC will be slightly delayed (a bit like VOIP).
I've done it on and off using 1Mbps, so nothing that 2Mbps can't handle.
Unless your remote desktop is like 4096 x 3072 resolution or something crazy.

I Saw the 5 days prepaid maxmobile 2 Mbps costs me $15.
So to say.

I go down to main starhub shop. Pay $99 for the E1750 + $15 for 5 days of 2Mbps plan and start using it immediately?
