why is everyone looking at university accommodation? They chop carrots like no head.
UQ has so many local/malaysian student, just band together and rent a house nearby la..cheaper and more quiet.

cos we new ma..:)
where to find our band of brothers from sg/my? go there then can find?

i looking at air ticket price now. if coming with family, like no point to buy student tix.
cos the non-student one is cheaper(the travel agent said so) and you can ask your parent to help you bring somethings on their luggage/

ppl, is the UQ airport reception necessary? what if i reach Brisbane at midnight?

not sure if i wanna get 1yr return air tix, i think got vacation work? also duno start when.

we have hardwarezone in singapore, they use gumtree quite a bit over there. Alternatively thru the UQ website u can find excellent accomdations. With internet, electricity and water thrown in , u'll pay ~ 100-150 pw. If u are staying longer, u can even bargin down the prices.

And why on earth did u book air tickets thru agency?? It's not as if u are going to Chili in South America or need the tickets tml. How agency make money is to slap a 10-15% service charge on ur tickets. $900 tic sell u $1K. Getting to Queensland is usually a one way, simple affair. Book at Quantas , it's typically the cheapest. Sometimes, singapore Air have good offers and they might only be $50 more than quantas.

Book half a year la...It's a pain to be away for 1 year.

And no point bringing so much luggage. 20Kg is more than enuff. you dun really need to bring 60KG of stuff over. Bring round 5 sets of good clothes to wear, a good jacket and some clothes for home. A pillow ( buy those compressed one at robinsons). Some toiletries and u are set. Forget maggie mee or watever.

Anything else u can buy over there. Dun bring laptop over. Why? Typically, unless urs it the high end type, they dun have international warranty( and some, EVEN if they have so call international warrranty, might not have service center in Brisbane). Buy there. Gumtree, u can get second hand sets or they have harvey norman there. Prices is ~20% higher than singapore, BUT if ur lappie conked out ( and they usually do, b/c u are so bored that u on it many many hours a day), that 20% cover back the cost or repair easily.

yep i know about their gumtree. and UQ accommodation too.
the last time i check, they have a few house ready for feb rental , beside that not much. and being new, not sure if the place or the advertised deal is safe anot. unless got friends to help us check out. or you suggest, arriving in Jan to book accommodation? or is Jan too late?

just go travel agent to hear what they say. nah, im booking online. and i agree that i don need 60kg, i think 1person's baggage should be enough, can buy most stuff there. but since parent going, might as well make use of the space.

from what i heard so far, emirates is not bad.n gives 30kg for everyone. and relatively cheap, but arrive at odd hours.

what do you mean book half a year? as in return to sg during mid-year? mm, not sure about that. If there is 1/2 year return tix, can consider. (ps, yet to encounter them, if you suggested, it must exist :) )

nice suggestion, will check out the compressable pillow, n robinsons got sale!

you are the first to recommend not to bring laptop. i understand your point, valid! erm, got advised by ppl to buy ASUS de, as got international warranty and brisbane got 1 service center. hope it still exist

The science stuff isnt the hard part, its the essay and humanities part that get most people down. Or so I hear.....

I buy the 1 year cardio/pool/gym pass for about $500 bucks but its well worth the money since I use it like 5x a week

basket ball court is free of charge, swimming pool about 3-4 dollar per entry but i not sure since i have not paid for a long time as i use the yearly pass
