I'll see what she has to offer first.

I don't think being "young" is the issue here. In the UK, an 18-year-old independent candidate, Tom Bletsoe, even won a by-election to become England's youngest town-councillor.

Youth has its advantages, chiefly a greater willingness to try new things. If he or she is willing to listen to the advice from more senior ranks and find the right balance, then being young might actually help. It comes down to whether the young person shows any leadership qualities in him or her that matters.

The case of Tin Pei Ling is that she showed little, if anything, that suggests she has what it takes. Her youthfulness only made things worse in this case. Her views on social issues (or the lackof), and the remarks on the income gap further disqualifies her as the right candidate for the people. She isn't even running in the ward where she did her grassroot work.

We don't know what's Nicole political orientation are, so it's better not to pass judgement for or against her until we here her speak. If she turns out to be another TPL then it's a bad move by NSP to field her. But if she shows more substance than TPL, that will further expose the lack of depth among the young candidates that PAP is fielding this election.

Being elected {Tom} doesn't disprove most of the things said against TPL and Seah. It would have been better if you can show that he did great work after elected. (Am unfamiliar with him though I recall others vaguely, so if you have the information would be wonderful). But you are right, youthfulness is great but for leadership position like MPs, you need to have at least the skills and ability to deliver [with youthful energy] to augment. PAP has not quite shown the public relative strong evidence of her leadership skills and ability. Seah will be same situation if NSP doesn't do that either. Yep, I agree with Celcus that Opposition may have inadvertently robbed themselves of a salient argument going into the rallies.

* TPL was quite novice as seen by her being caught with her knickers down or to be more exact her personal facebook wide open resulting with at least the Katie saga. Seah's, either herself or with more expert guidance from her party, facebook looks properly set up for the battle. Therefore, imho, Seah has a slight edge over TPL *

What went wrong when TPL speaks is she said 2 things

"Actually the cost of education for the young ones is very low"
"For elderly, healthcare is already quite low and manageable in Singapore "

So people put her age and her lack of experience based on the kind of words she said.

If she phrase it as,
"We are doing our best to lower the cost of education and will continue to bring down further the cost of education to benefit every Singaporean. We welcome all feedbacks to improve the situation even better."

The 1st and the 2nd is complete contrast. And in politics the way the message is delivered is crucial. When she said cost of healthcare in Singapore is very low. To someone who just got his bill from a heart surgery asking him to pay $6000 when he only earns $1500 a month, does anyone think what TPL has said strikes a chord with how he is feeling right now?

Hmmm I took a look at the youtube you posted. I don't think she muffed that one. She did not say "costs of education is very low" which I believe you are thinking about, correct if I am wrong. She had stated "the costs of eduction for the young ones is very low". (The person who did that youtube looks to have intentionally left out the words "young ones" in the multiple interposed written words, shame on him or her). For me that meant primarily those in kinder, primary and perhaps some or all of secs. But university education imo is not "young ones". Along that line, personally I found putting my two kids through to mid sec where they are now is low if one looks purely at the costs from the actual schooling (ie minus pre-kinder playskool, extra cram classes or the enrichment classes like that guy asking for subsidy to put his 8yr old through ballet enrichment). For the low-income, they will understandably view the costs as high as they would any costs by dint of their financial situation. A McDonald set meal to us middleclass is costly to them too. A clerk in my wife's company, divorcee with kids, took on second job at McDonalds to get more money and at same time, their dinner was the leftover burgers she would take home after the end of every of her night shift.

But you are right in that she could have added about doing something substantial to helping these poors who find even "low" eucational costs to be a heavy burden.

wow, she really looks more sweet than tpl. hope she is more mature compared to tpl.

wonder how NSP fielded her. this elections, really surprising to see how oppositions have gained some great people.

Campaigning is like putting on a show. Being elected proves one has the showmanship and the ability to be identified with. Whether one can actually do the job one is elected for is another thing.

NSP is trying to do some reverse psychology here. Hoping any argument that the PAP gives to defend TPL, will be counter used for the benefit of Nicole. But in the end a larger more meaningful point could have been made if all the Opp candidates were seasoned professionals and not just fresh graduates.

And as for her edge over TPL, i dont think there is much. Nichole is a Reform Party detractor and left it in bad shape. So much so that KJ could ill afford Alec Tok leaving. Tony and Hazel got all the stick for it but Nichole slipped below the radar.

And netters are already digging out Nichole's discretion ala TPL-kate-spade style. Goes to show what goes around comes around.

her facebook wall is open for all to post.
Better yet, she actually replies and engages the netizens. Quite frequently too.

Now shd be >3000 likes, almost all are positive, words of encouragement etc.

Tinpot Ling took 1 mth to hit abt 2000 likes. And most ppl "like" her just so they can slam her. LOL
